Want to get away & Be bit secluded
Hi from slightly defrosted Ohio,
We want to getaway for a week in March. Thinking going south to warm up but want to be secluded and full hookup (doesnt everyone, right?).
Anyone recommend where we can drive in a day to get warmer weather, like in the Smokies?

I've headed to Charlotte in March the last few years. It's been warm and sunny and a nice break until we thaw out. Hi from the other side of the frozen lake.

Townsend, Tennessee is billed as the "Peaceful side of the Smokies". There are several RV campgrounds in Townsend, but otherwise the town is pretty much undeveloped and the stores and restaurants are locally owned and operated. It is at the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park nearest to Cades Cove. We camp there often and love it. It is about 15 minutes from Pigeon Forge, about 25 minutes from Gatlinburg, but you don't have the traffic and crowds that you have to deal with there. My favorite campground there is Tremont Outdoor Resort. I would request a riverside spot in section 'B'. All the riverside spots have covered decks. Some require a little bit of leveling, but it is worth it.

mike06081969,
Thanks for the info. This is just what I was looking for! Albeit we were planning a late March trip..might be on the chilly side still, but sounds great. Going to dig into finding out more about this place.

Not a lot of great campgrounds in Charlotte but a lot of NASCAR things to do.
Probably too far but lots of nice campgrounds in nc mountains. Boone and cherokee are nice areas, grandfather mountain is beautiful and you can go see the Brown mountain lights

Thanks for the great info. Those Brown Mountain Lights sure are interesting. My boys would get a kick out of seeing that.

The brown mountain lights are really neat to see. I saw them a long time ago (before my camping days), I plan to take my daughter when she is a little older. It is in the absolute middle of nowhere but awesome to watch when they appear.

Hike Mt. Leconte while you are there. It's awesome if you can get in at the lodge for a night (expensive, but memorable). The lodge is very rustic with no electricity, but you have to hike in and hike back out. Once you are on Leconte, the views are absolutely spectacular. There are five (I think) trails that lead to Leconte. The Boulevard trail is the easiest, but longest at 8 miles. Alum Cave Bluffs is an awesome hike, but steep and about 5.5 miles. There is a waiting list for the lodge that is often a year long, but sometimes you can catch a cancellation.

We haven't camped there, but I understand Bryson City, NC is a beautiful area to camp as well. We are planning to try that in the next year or so.
