Goodbye Table & Chairs
Well the only thing we have found that we really dislike about our little cruiser is the dining table and chairs. We were so excited about having a table and chairs over a booth type setting, but alas, we quickly discovered that it's pretty useless. Bolted to the floor with it so close to one wall that two chairs are useless. Tried unbolting the table and that didn't work, table went everywhere when in tow. Soooooo out it's gonna go. Found a nice size lightweight metal tubed desk and will place that where the dinette table is. We can actually use the desk, and we already were eating on fold up tray tables so that won't change. As a plus, we can scoot the couch over a tad and place a small end table between the couch and wall. Gonna use it as is this coming weekend, then paint the metal tubing to match the interior.
Will post pics when completed

We will be looking for the pics as we dislike our dinette. It is good for the two storage drawers but not user friendly.

I have the dinnette with storage underneath ....but foam sucks...had to put denser foam in the cushions and now we do not bottom out when sitting.

In the CF 285 I had I was going to turn the table sideways and bolt it back down. We didn't ever need but 2 chairs anyway. You might try that and see how it fits before chunking it. Put the other 2 chairs in the house or garage.

That may be a mod within the next few months. Do you know what kind of foam you used?

We might need to search for an RV surplus house. No problems with the chair covers as I could recover them. We are removing the horrible sleeper sofa and adding two recliners.

Don't recall , but just went to an upholstery shop and they cut some denser foam for me. Used the old ones as templates. And I inserted them myself.

Find an auto or furniture upholstery shop, they will have foam with different densities and thicknesses and will cut the foam to your sizes. When I built my own sofa, I used 4 inch, highest density for the seat cushions and 2 inch next highest density for the seat backs. Much more comfortable than OEM sofa or dinette seating.

Larry and Harley,
Thanks for the information. Fortunately, I have a supplier here "Foam to Size" that will do that for me. I had completely forgotten about them.

Love the table
We really enjoy the table and chairs in our 5er. We have always had dinettes in previous units, and wanted the table/chair combo. We have had 4 at table a few times, and find it more convenient than "booth". Usually though, it is just the 2 of us.

We also unbolted the table. When we travel, we put a long bungee around the table and chairs and have sliced pool noodles for the edge of the table in case it moves and bumps into something. We've been doing that a few years and it's been working great so far. There's minimal movement because all are strapped together.

That's one thing I noticed about the unit we are buying. There aren't drawers under the dinette. Just doors my husband said he will just build drawers. As they are so much easier to use than having to take the dinette benches apart every time to get at stuff I'm sure we will find more stuff to change once we get it home. But is the furniture really that bad. We sat in the chairs. But it was hard to tell as it's so cold up here I think they were frozen

We did not like the sleeper sofa and the two recliners that came with our unit. We replaced them with furniture from La-Z-Boy. Now we are Happy, Happy, Happy...

Ours has those huge plastic bins you can pull out. Open the door and pull out the bin. Maybe they can get you some.

Mine has the booth dinette but no drawers. I think we will be building some as. Having to take the benches apart all the time to get to stuff is a total pain!!

get some 'under the bed' storage bins they are about 3 ft long and should fit thru the doors at the end of the bench.

Hi Debbie... this is my first post here .... We ditched the dinette and mini sofa bed after a year.... sofa too small to be comfy... and Dinette too restrictive. We kept the two dinette bench seats and put them at either end of the slide gap and built between the two. Now have a full length seating.... with storage below with a removable section that tranforms to an extra long double bed This is our visitor sleeping because we have also removed all bunks in the rear room to make it into an office so I can semi-retire VERY soon. I will post pics of the setup soon - it may give you some ideas.
