Water Pump
Hello all (again):
In pushing antifreeze through the lines, I think I burnt up my water pump while switching from one jug to another. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure of it as all fuses and breakers are still good to go. It was a Shurflo 2.8 GPM/12V/7 Amp deal.
Is there anything that says I can't go with a bigger pump so long as I don't exceed the 15 amp capability of the circuit? Obviously I don't want to go too big as other things likely run off of the same circuit. At the same time, as the great Tim the Tool Man Taylor once said, "More Power!"
Is their a quality heirarchy on water pump brands (quality, quietness, output)?
Any feedback is good feedback.
Thanks all!

Thats strange, the pumps are designed so they can run dry without burning out. I'm not saying its impossible, I would just put a multimeter on the wires at the pump and make sure you are getting power before spending the money on a new pump.

It is. It might have a reset button on it somewhere as well. Thanks for the tip!

You can go with a larger pump if you want. Just make sure it doesn't exceed the pressure for your existing lines. Most have an adjustable pressure cut off at 40 - 50 psi but some go as high as 80 psi and your water lines may not hold without springing a leak. ShurFlo makes a great pump. We have a different brand that we already had to replace under warranty. ShurFlo makes many models but I think their Whisper Quiet or something like that is one of the best.
I agree that these pumps are hard to burn out but your unit is 7 years old so that is a possibility.

Could very well be the pump gone bad .. Mine was an off brand(something with 5 letters starting with an "a")and was replaced under warranty after only 3 weeks in service with a sur-flo.... guess the cost saving with the cheaper pumps worked well ..lol.

Our pump brand was ARTIS if I remember correctly and that was what we got for a replacement from CrossRoads. It is manufactured by WFCO I think. Pretty sure a Chinese company but it does have over a 3 gal per minute flow.

yes , mine was an artis. it started leaking at at seam on the pump unit . Demanded a shur flo as a replacement. And the surflow has better water pressure.. they must have got a better price on the cheap pumps. A pump should last longer than 3 weeks. IMO

When we were out in CO. this year the pump started hammering and then I found water on the floor by it.
I replaced it with Shurflo's new "Revolution 4008. It's way quieter then the old pump. Not cheap tho. $120.00
