I think i might be. I get wrapped up in stuff like this because of the countless post on this site and other sites that say it is a bad idea to put bicyles on the bumper because of a few folks that had issues out of the 1,000s that are on the road of all these years. I believe if the bumper was going to fall off, It will on its own, It will just take longer because there is no weight on it. Putting a little weight on it will speed up the process and bikes will ultamatly be the blame of the thing falling off. Just speaking from my experience because my c-class bumper came off and had nothing on it except me standing on it to clean windows. Nobody blamed me standing on it was the cause of my bumper tearing away. Of course i inspected it every trip because of all the posted issues.I know Ishould let it go,
I don't even carry bikes anymore
The bumper will twist with nothing on, it will fromfrom normal driving. It flexes between the two frame rails. Jack up the rig on one side by the frame to take off the tire ,as the owners manual suggest, and see that baby twist. The RV's flex around. Somtimes i can't even get my man door shut if i load up the stabalizer jack to much. All that flexing also speeds up the bumper problems and probably in my opionion, The cause of bumper issues. Not two bikes of a total weight of 40lbs. OR 80lbs with 4 bikes.
Ok, I will be done with this. I just can't see putting bikes on the front of my truck. I do like the idea of up on the pin box though, That is neat.
O yea, .100 is a decent about of wall thickess. And the tube can flex all day long. Were they tear away is at the welds from cheasy welds and flexing of the frame rails.. You should see my tongue on the boat trailer, .100 also.. Bounces to high heaven, No issues with the old boat trailer. My 2 place snowmobile trailer has Aluminum Frame and .1 thickness. That babby really flexes and that is aluminum, which is more subseptableto weld cracking.
