I have read in my Crossroads owner’s manual – DO NOT COVER the heater vent with the screen wasp covers.

After a recent trip to my local RV service guy for some maintenance work....he says that I need to add one. Almost everyone that I come in contact with have them....and even a buddy with a Crossroads (he is not the type to read the manual) has one.

Since the owner’s manual says not to use them....I haven’t. And so far after 4 years I have not had any problems with the critters building condo’s inside.

What have you guys done?

Why does CR say not to use them?

Terry, I have had a screen cover on all of my trailers. The ones you get at an RV dealer are a bigger mash than regular screen wire like on a screen door. I think they are talking about that. I put screen door wire on my first trailer and in no time it was so hot it burnt through the wire. Learned the hard way. Since then I have used the ones from a RV dealer. They are a good thing as you don't want any wasps building a nest on the burners. That would cost more to fix than the screen cover. Hope that helped you a little.

As far as CR saying it in ther manual I would think it's to CYA themselves.

I have always used them without any problems. With the critters we have in Texas (especially dirt dabbers) I would not be without them.I also have one on the hot water heater panel. My DW put fiberglass screen material on the back side of the fridge covers top and bottom with hot melt glue to keep bugs out. Edited by: Hunter11

I think what the owners manual refers to, is not the rounded type covers that you buy at a RV supply.

But those tight knit screens as in screen door or windows. This type screen is subject to blocking the correct air flow from the heater and can cause a fire hazard.

I'm basically in the same area as Hunter11 and the dirt dobbers and wasp are unbelievable this time if year. They're as bad, if not worse, as the starlings up North.
