Wardrobe closet shelves
Has anyone installed shelving in the front two wardrobe closets. I'm thinking of some furring strips and this wooden shelves, similar to the pantry shelving.

What we found is that we hang all our shirts up, I even hang my underwear on the hangers and then we fold our slacks in the cupboard above the closet it works out great can get a months worth of clothing in this way. I put a pair of jeans under a sweat shirt hanging also that works out well, I would try this method before putting all shelves in. I put my shoes in the bottom of the closet and have one of those 12 x 12 cloth boxes in the closet I put stuff in that I might need as like extra underwear, sweats etc and I can pull those out as I use up the other clothes. Works out great.

We have a lot more hanging space than drawers. We used our thick tubular plastic hangers from the house that took up a lot of space and did not hold some items very well. Have any of you used the "huggable" hangers that have a velvety-flocked covering? They are much thinner and look like they would keep the clothes intact.

We put shelves in both of ours. Used furring strips but the shelves are white wire. Also , installed with the lip up. Works great for us.

Jean,
We picked up some of those velvety covered hangars. We like them so much we're picking up more of them and ditching all the "fat" tubular style, as you say, you can save room and get so much more in that way. Oh, and pants won't slip off them like they do on regular hangars either.
Travel well,
Jim

Thanks. Never heard of Bealls until we were in FL on vacation last year. Nice little store to get clothing for sudden change in weather!

skip the furring strips. our pantry shelves collapsed during our trip out west. not meant to hold more than folded laundry.
Look at stuff like this..

I went to target and loaded up on wire metal racks for the pantry. for the clothing closets I put in little plastic shelf sets that I found in the bathroom section. they were the perfect size to give me 3 small shelves in each closet.

Don't be shy to post pictures folks. I'm a visual person myself. I like to look at it first and then put my hands on it.

Ok, so I bought one 4x8 sheet of 1/4" hole white pegboard and some white wainscot. And a bunch of 1/4" shelf brackets.
The pegboard was cut to fit the front wardrobe amend scraps glued behind so the pegboard would stand off the sides and allow the shelf brackets to fit. You don't have to match the front curve exactly but try to get close.
Then the wainscot is cut to slide in at various heights. Each one is different due to the curve of the front cap.
Took about an hour once the material is home. Be sure to reverse the cut on the pegboard so the white side faces in!
You'll get to use your whole space!!

I hang all my clothes, put my underwear in gallon zip lock bags in bottom of closet and put a couple shoe boxes in the bottom for my shoes, I can fit a months worth of clothes in the closet this way.

I usually hang what I want and place my duffle bag in the bottom with my underwear and socks etc. Not usually gone long enough to need more room at this point. Nice mod though.

We used cheap hanging shelves. This way we can be more flexible.
