Awning vinyl top layer starting to delaminate

Has anyone ever attempted to save an awning with gorilla or flextape. Mine has a 12'x12' portion by the top front corner where the top layer has peeled away from the structural center layer.

I was able to make it a couple more years by cleaning well and using gorilla tape on both sides. It's only going to work though when the tear is small or if it's just the outer layer.

12x12 is pretty large.. my problem area was maybe an inch wide and 6 or 8 inches long.

It's not torn. The outer layer is just peeled away.

That's really hard to say.. the tape would probably help to reinforce it but with such a large area, I don't know how successful you'd be.

You can get replacement awnings that are custom made to fit your awning hardware. Itlf the hardware is still in good shape, that's the direction I'd go.

If you decide to replace the fabric I would suggest going with acrylic fabric. Mine is 13 years old with no issues.

Yeah, when it delaminates about the only thing you can do is replace it. Too much surface area to try to re-glue.

I recently repaired my awning using 6 inch Extreme Steel Loc tape. Our trailer is 10 years old and UV rays & minor hail damage had delaminated the under layer of the awning (while in the rolled up position). I cleaned the area and applied the tape to both the top and under side of the fabric for the entire 16’ length. It’s a 2 person job - take your time to apply to ensure no air bubbles or wrinkles - and use a couple 6 inch rollers while applying. Extreme Loc seems to work as well as Eternabond but is less expensive. Was well worth the cost and effort as the remainder of the awning is still in good shape.
