From the research I’ve been doing, the Maxxis 8008 and newer Goodyear Endurance (made in America) are the best for standard size trailer tires. When the tires get larger and higher ratings, there are a couple more brands that are popular. I’ll be going to the Goodyear Endurance next.

I put the Goodyear Endurance on our trailer earlier last year and they are doing great! Feel much safer with them on the trailer over the stock 6ply tires. I went up a grade to an 8 ply 65psi tire and run them at about 58psi and the ride is much nicer and notice that the trailer seems to pull a little bit better too. Not to mention the speed rating on these tires are up at 87 as well. Not that I will ever get anywhere near that speed, I generally just set the cruise at about 63 and let it ride, but now and then I need to pass a big truck and knowing that I am not constantly riding near the limits of the stock tires that were on the trailer adds to a much more enjoyable trip. The stock tires were rated at 70mph max speed and 7200lbs max load at max inflation. Well the trailer is 6900lbs loaded out and I like to have a little bit more of a buffer zone of safety than that. Added bonus is the Endurance tires are made in the USA so it was a win win

I have the Maxxis mentioned above, I like them, had Maxxis on my old trailer and they lasted longer than I had the trailer. When I got them on the current trailer, Goodyear did not have their endurance tires on the market yet, or my dealer couldn't get them. I too went up a load rating on the tires when I replaced them.

X2 on what Poppabear said. We're running Endurance. My apprenticeship some YEARS ago was with Goodyear and I'm still a bit tilted toward their tires. Not the only reason why we got em tho. The reviews I've read are pretty positive. BTW, we had Maxxis 8008 on our previous 5er and they're also a really good choice. Mf'd in Australia.

tires
Great info. Went with Maxxis after research. Better with 8 ply. Feel safer.

I switched our 5th wheel over to Goodyear Endurance last year. The tires are doing great. I agree with the benefits mentioned in previous posts in this thread. I like the fact the tires are made in the USA.

We have the double slide version of your trailer. We put on Good Year Endurance in June of last year after only one season of camping with what the trailer came with. Which were Castle Rocks. If after 1 season of the original Castle Rocks, one tire blows, and the other has tread separation, I'm surprised this company hasn't been sued.

Tire Life
I figure this is related to the current tire conversation so here goes. I will never use my trailer enough to wear out a set of tires. I have done a lot of reading on-line and I have read that one should never use a set of tires for more than 5 years on a trailer. This is because of time is the sun and sitting in one spot with a lot of weight etc. I feel that 5 years is a little harsh because if I include the spare in the equation I have to replace one tire each year to the tune of $200. I wanted to see if anyone has some experience on this.

From what I’ve read, I likely will not go more than four seasons with what I consider a quality tire. The OE tires I have on my current trailer will be replaced after season #2. I would have done it after the first year, but I spent a lot of cash on other things, and gosh darn it tires should last at least two seasons! This year I’ll be sitting at a seasonal mostly and won’t put on more than 1,500 miles on them (for a total of maybe 8,000 miles).

It's common knowledge that the tires they put on the units at the factory are pretty much all junk. Labeled (china bombs).
Now, I realize it's the individuals choice as to how long they want to run those tires.
My thoughts on the subject is-------You've spent how many thousands of dollars on your trailer? Whats a few more hundred dollars for you,
and your families saftey? Plus, the peace of mind knowing you have replaced the junk! Wouldn't it be nice to hook onto your unit and drive down the road headed for a campground for the weekend and not be sitting there behind the wheel wondering if one of those tires is suddenly going to blow?
To me, it's like playing Russian roulette.

I just had Goodyear Endurance ST tires delivered on Wednesday. I got 5 years 12,000 miles out of the China bombs but like Lloyd said, always had it on my mind that they could blow any time.
For just $600 I will have my mind at ease knowing that I now have a better tire to run on.

2x on the Goodyear Endurance. Great tire. So as far as when to replace, tires are a natural compound and break down whether put miles or let it sit.
I live in Akron Ohio so there are tire engineers in the neighborhood and my Father in Law is retired engineer from Firestone so I have a good set of resources here. You need to think to replace after 4-5 years Regardless. Thats why they date the tires. For the 400-500 hundred it’s not worth a blowout. I’ve had two and the tread that flies off really can do a lot of damage to the trailer not to mention lose control of the trailer.
I just ordered Endurance’s. Great upgrade to the Chinese bombs that came with the trailer.

I replace my China bombs every 2-3 years and in sets. I’ve done enough tire changing on the side of the road.
Wish my Volante had 16” rims vs 15”. I’ve replaced lots of cattle and equipment trailer tires with LT tires and have had phenomenal success and life out of those tires.

I just got four Goodyear Endurance tires delivered yesterday. Can’t wait to get them mounted and balanced and see how they are. I know my mind will be more at ease knowing our camper has a better quality tire. I looked at the Maxxis 8008 and the G/Y Endurance. The G/Y tires were cheaper plus received a $60.00 rebate.

I found 16" wheels at TireRack with the same bolt pattern and offset as the 15" wheels that came on my camper. I bought 16" Michelin LT tires from TireRack too. They came mounted and balanced, so I only had to bolt them on. It makes a big difference in my peace of mind when I'm towing down the highway. I used to constantly worry that a tire would blow any minute, but now I relax while driving.

A few years back I put a set of Goodyear LT on the trailer. I went with the 16 in. My Goodyear dealer ordered the rims for me at the same time.

Just returned from my annual long trip
After a miserable long trip 3 years ago, I replaced my china bombs that had blown with 2 Goodyear Marathons. The next year I put replaced the others with Endurances. So now I have 2 of each on my trailer. Just returned from a long trip, NH to Indy and back. Have felt much more at ease since I switched. I will be replacing the other 2 with new Endurances either next year or maybe one more.....
