Mark,

I think I mentioned it in my earlier post, but yes about 1 mpg, but with it warming up I seem to back to my original mpgs. We'll see. Biggest dif is the ride, especially during the winter months.

I love the Cooper AT3's and you can't beat them when it comes to bang for the buck.

With the winter we just had I guess I can't blame you for getting those tires. If you figure out the mpg loss I'm sure it only amounts to a small amount of $ per tank. Good luck with them.

Funny you mention winter driving, I think the P rated tires handled better in the snow. I was surprised since there is more aggressive tread on the LT tires.

We just replaced our TV tires with Michelin LTX M/S2. The original Michelins were OEM from Toyota and were not wearing properly. We called to complain about the wear and got a 30% credit on the new ones. Better than nothing. We do like the ride of these.

This would be normal. The P tires have a very flexable side wall thus giving you a good tire contact pad. The LT tire the side walls are stronger and have less flex, thus in snow less tire patc

I put Mastercraft Courser AXT tires on my Tundra right after I bought the truck. (Mastercraft is made by Cooper and very popular in this area.) Load range E, 125\122S service. I have 10K miles on them now and am quite pleased with them. Not as good in deep snow as some tires I have owned, but a good quiet all terrain tire. You can see the tires and the towing mirrors I just installed yesterday in the attached pic.

The Mud Claws have a pretty aggressive tread. More so than the Duratrac. They also came with a 45 - 50 thousand mile prorated warranty, as well as road hazard. Load rating was like 3400 lbs. Can't really say I noticed any rougher ride. But much more solid in the wind with 10 ply. As far as mileage, it is what it is. As I haven't put many miles on them yet I don't know. I also installed the Ride Rite Ride Control air bags. They are rated for 2000lbs. Have not towed with them yet but have a trip scheduled Memorial Day weekend and will let you know.

I love my Michelin LTX A/T Load Range E tires on my F250. They aren't as quiet as the LTX M/S, but they have a little bit more aggressive tread. The best thing about them is that they have an 80,000 mile treadwear warranty. After 17,000 miles, they still look like brand new. You can't even tell they're wearing. Expensive, but worth it.

If you all don't mind since we are on the subject of E rated tires. Is there an optimal inflation for these or is it based all on feel. I don't think I've quite found that right number yet in the couple times I've been out. Usually run them around 50 psi unloaded and have tried it at 55 psi and 60 psi. Don't want to inflate too much under load for fear that the air pressure will expand too much as tire gets hot. Should I be running more in the 65 psi range? 70?

When towing mine are set at 50 up front and 70 in the rear. None towing it can be 45 and 45 (softer ride)

I run mine at what GM recommends for my truck regardless if I'm towing or not, and that is 60 PSI front and 70 PSI rear. Heat builds up more rapidly when the pressure is down.

This is Goodyear's inflation chart based on load.

This is the same strategy I used on my last trick and it worked well. It is recommended by several tire gurus.

Please tell me what your last trick and tire guru's have in common?

Sounds kinda kinky to me.

Not bad. It's a heavy duty truck. I want it to ride like a truck, not like a car. I have an Impala if I want a really smooth ride. The Silverado doesn't ride much harder than my girlfriend's F-150.

Every one of my company trucks tows heavy daily, at least 10-18 k loads. I run Hancook and Cooper At/3 tires on all 11 trucks. I gave up on BFG and Michelin after they merged, within 2 years every truck had dry rotted sidewalls and would blow if not caught in time. My 2013 Ram has Transforse tires on it and I will probably stick with those for a while since it's my personal vehicle. South Texas heat is hard on inferior tires.
