Smile Gas vs diesel

Lloyd, thanks for your reply. What kind of mileage on your truck & any mechanical problems? I have heard of some problems when mileage gets over 120-130000 range especially with the direct injection & 85/15 blend.
As a comparison we have a 5.4 with approximately 70000 mi & our results are very similar mileage wise(more in the 18-19 on road when not towing). I do see my revs get in the 3500rpm range when grades get 7deg & above but the ohc engines love to rev.
Any way your answers were what we expected as far as the power band holding & like a diesel making a smooth transition in the mtns.
We also drive at the speeds you do & find that wind cuts mileage more than mtns.
Also like you Im not looking to start a gas vs diesel war, we do about 50/50 tow/nontow & it is a matter of economics vs the diesel. Lower up front costs, fuel costs, maintenance, etc. We are probably going to trade within the next year & just looking ahead.

Thanks

I have very few miles on the truck. So I would not be the one to remark on the longevity of the Eco-Boost engine.
Maybe some of the other members that have owned theirs longer and have put some miles on, will chime in.

I have to agree with Lloyd, I own 2 diesels and if I had a light weight 5th wheel or a travel trailer I know I would go with the Eco boost.

How many miles do you have on your turbo? We willbe looking within the year & the turbos should have all the bugs worked out by then.
We drove our turbo coupe & our super coupe(supercharged) both over 180000 & never had a problem. However we weren't towing with them but they were run but maintained . That is the secret to all engines now.
Thanks for reply.

Oh, and by the way, diesel is $2.73 in central VA. Regular is under $2.
diesel on average is $3.40 in S. Fl. It's amazing how much they tax our fuel. This ships come into our port with the fuel and we get rapped.

That was my plan but when I started to price ecoboost 150's they were the same price as a used SD KingRanch. I never looked back and bought the SD.

If a person has no real need to own a diesel, then I can't see any reason to have one. With the added cost for fuel and maintenance it adds up in a hurry.

I'm real satisfied with the eco boost so far. It has done everything my diesel did for me.
I'm also happy to have gotten over the love affair associated with owning a diesel.
