I've got the cheaper 3500/4000 watt Champion remote start model and love it. It is so nice to start the AC while still in bed, or charge the batteries for the furnace blower demand.

I would never buy another generator without it.

That's also a great unit. cheaper than the inverter model, but you get the remote operation and more power. I have a remote also, I send my son out to start it up when we need power!

Funny. I have been thinking about the Champion 3500/4000 as well. Where do you carry these. I saw a camper with one mounted on the back.

Tim D,

I carry my son in the truck..be dangerous if he was hanging off the back..

Oh no, you're not going to drag me into a another Sunset Trail bumper mount discussion! I've already stirred that pot with the bike rack thread.

Seriously though, I worry most about my inverter genny walking away, so I stow it out of site in the bed of the truck. A lot of the threads on other forums seem to allude to the fact portable generators tend to get stolen.

I was torn between the Champion 3100w inverter generator or 2 2000w with the parallel kit...both from Canadian Costco. I opted for the 2000s. Better fuel consumption since we only use 1 unless we run the a/c. Also, I can lift them on my own. Not sure I could have moved the 3100 without help.

Hi Amanda,

Yes, if you can swing the cost the bridged 2000's is a good way to go. I have the 3100 and is not easy pickup by myself. The design isnt great on the 3100 since the handles are on the top. May I ask how much you paid for the pair with the parallel kit?

We have a Master Lock braided steel cable that we attach to the generator and then to the frame of the RV. It would take a lot of work to steal ours.

Jean I hate to tell you this, but if I had the cable cutters they use in the store where I buy cable on occasion, I could have your genny in less then a minute.
It use to be a person could feel secure if you had things cabled, not any more.
I don't worry about fellow campers, it's the riff raff you see driving thru the campgrounds scoping out things.

I guess I'm getting off topic---sorry.

Oops, we bought ours from a locksmith who said bolt cutters would not cut it. Oh well!

Lloyd,

The point of those basic cable locks is to slow down the thief or deter them to move on to steal something not secured.

Your right in the fact that if the riff raff want what you have and willing to put a effort into stealing it, doesnt really matter how well its secured.

Fact is, locks keep most people honest. The guy running around with bolt cutters who is looking and wants one is gonna if he gets a chance. The other guy says well looky here, too bad I don't have bolt cutters. Nothing you can do about the first guy unless you catch him in the act.

Crooks can be quite crafty. Whatever you come up with they will find a way around it. Make your Gen secure the best way you see fit and leave the rest to chance.

The generators were $529.99 CAD each and the parallel kit was $80. Total with tax was just under $1200 CAD. The 3100 would have been $800 CAD I think. I would have been happy with just 1 but hubby wanted the ability to run the A/C.
