More efficient A/C delivery

Hello friends.....I have always been plagued with inadequate air flow out my round vents. I removed one and saw the airflow was restricted by the flange of the vents. (See pics) So the flanges were impeding the airflow from duct to duct. Plus I was losing cooling from the gap between the delivery duct and ceiling. I removed each vent, reached in and pulled down the duct (very pliable) till tight flush with the ceiling and silver tape sealed it. No air gap. Then cut about an inch off the vent so nothing protrudes into the air duct for a straight line delivery. What a difference that made! I also have a straight line duct that supplies air to living room and rear bath. The bath was getting a lot of air because it was the end of the run but living room not as much. So I partially cut one of the vents to make a partial air diverter. Works great! Also an added plus, with the duct pulled down flush to the ceiling the vent screws have additional meat to screw into instead of just the thin ceiling.

Nice. Every little bit helps. I just sealed up my plenum, and will be going in to look at my vents later this evening.

Couple years back. I added two extra vents in the living room. Huge difference. Today, doubling the size of the return air. Finished one side. Tomorrow the other side. We'll let you know if it helps. Enlarged second return this morning. Now the wife is saying her toes are cold. Should of done this seven years ago. Temps next week headed to 105°. It was 94° today. Inside stayed at 78°. Nice.

How do I remove the diffuser to access the 4 hidden screws in the base? When trying to pull down, the ceiling deflects past where I'm comfortable applying more force.

If you shine a flashlight into the diffuser you can see where it snaps in place. I used a screwdriver to push in on the clip from the outside. I am in the process of replacing all the diffusers with the Thetford 94271 diffuser. It retains the old base and you are able to shut off each discharge diffusers. Helps when you arent going to be in the bedroom. They are only 7.00 each.

Thanks Don20, worked well after a little finessing. Found mine to be all sealed up with metal HVAC tape and the vent is flush with the lower duct. Our AC works very well in our small TT, but every little tweak can make life more comfortable. We are Northeast campers so don't have the extreme heat - maybe a handful of 95+ days but humidity is our enemy.

Good glad to hear it worked out. The weather on sunday will be 109 real feel 114 so every little bit helps. I know what you mean about humidity.... My dad is from Anderson Indiana. I thought I was gonna die when I went there!

Today's project. I cut down the inside lip of my a\c vents. Seems the taller lip was blocking air flow. Now can feel the cold air swirling around our 5th wheel.0708211251.jpg

Question. My A/C cover on the roof are black. Would painting them white help any?

I think paint would tend to peel off. Maybe they sell a white replacement cover? Either way yes white would be more reflectant of the sun so would run cooler. There is also a youtube video where you cut open the existing vent slots and replace with screen for better airflow.

I did check my vents yesterday due to the post. Mine also have a high lip but comes out even with the air duck space. There was a 1/4” crack at the top of the vent where it meets the air duck area. So, I pulled down the air duck area flush with the lip of the vent then took Hvac tape and sealed the crack at the air duck area down over the vent. Had to use 4” pieces to go around the vent to secure it. Did this to all five vents.

Nice! No sense in air conditioning running in between that crack and cooling your ceiling! ......Every little bit!
