I curious as to how much weight the rear bumper will support. I'd like to put a small motor scooter on the rear bumper using a motorcycle carrier, but not sure if it will support the weight. Anyone had any luck?

When we bought the Cruiser we had in 05 the factory told me no more than 150 lbs. I do know of two different people that had the bumper come off carrying a bike rack and two bikes on the back bumperof their Cruisers. Some people carry more weight than that on them. It is just a risk you take.

Mine is welded quite well and looks pretty sturdy. On the other hand, I have been told by many RV owners not to trust the rear bumper becuase of bouce and stress when traveling.

I appreciate your help. I did call the crossroads customer service line and was told it may void my trailer frame warranty and was given the phone number of their frame manufacturer. I understand they have to take the party line, that's why I tried the forum.

I have a 2010 CTX29RL and the welds on my bumper broke with just the spare tire mounted. CR paid for the fix. On mine only half the width of the bumper was welded to the frame.

I have carried 2 mountain bikes on mine for the last 6 years, with no problems "yet". Total weight is probably 100 Lbs for bikes and hitch. Next time I am working on it, I may add a larger gusset on each side, for piece of mind. I have checked the welds and they seem fine, full length, no cracks, etc. Some of he newer units look like the bumper was "spot" welded on. That may be a problem.
I have seen some with a 2" receiver hitch, with two cross braces, about 28" apart, welded to the frame rails. They then used a removable bike rack, which could also be used on the truck, and carry the bikes into townorwhen exploring.

This is what I intend to do to our unit if we still have it once the frame warranty is up. If you call Lippert and ask them if you can do anything to the frame (drill one hole) they will void your warranty.

You don't have to worry much about your frame warrenty Lippert would try to get out of any repair no matter what happens.

On our '07 30sk the bumper was gussetted and there was a 1-1/4" receiver attached. There was also a sticker that said "not for towing, 250 max. weight" On our 2010 30sk there are no gussets, no receiver so I guess they either had problems or just decided the design wasn't strong enough and eliminated everything.

Take a look at the post with subject "cargo carrier" I have been working on the same issue. Some have cautioned me about the warranty issues also. The warranty is something to look at however the likely hood of actually having Lippert help out seems to range from slim to not at all. Anyway I am continuing on with my plan to add on similar to what you are proposing. The worst thing about the idea is the twisting action on the bumper. Right now I am looking at adding a cross member between the frame rails the back of the hitch would be welded to the cross member the front would hang from the bumper. Then the bumper only has to carry the load with no twisting involved (much reducing the chances of having welds let go). Hope this all helps.
