Mattress replacement
We have purchased a 2012. Cruiser and would like to replace the mattress with a better one. Maybe even a memory foam one. My husband is concerned that it might be heavier than the original mattress and if that could Create a problem. With the bedroom slide. Any experience with this ?

Same here. I bought a queen size pillow top Serta Perfect Sleeper and put in my Blue Ridge fiver, then when I sold it, I took that mattress and put it in the Cruiser I have now. No slide problems with either unit as a result. Both had a dresser on the wall adjacent to the foot of the bed and it fit perfectly.

We are actually doing the same as we are upgrading our home mattress; swapping our old home one with the glorified dog bed that came with our trailer. Have slept only a few nights on the mattress that came with the trailer and have to say it is so uncomfortable!

Put a queen VERLO in ours....although our bed does not slide....works great. Sleep better in the camper sometimes than in the house...

Got a Verlo queen size: The slide still works even though the extra length is tight to the dresser drawers.

Perfect Harmony Mattress Topper
My wife and I did not approve of the mattress in our 2012 Patriot. What we did with the encouragement from some friends who were happy with their purchase was to buy a Perfect Harmony mattress topper from Camping World.
With out adding much additional weight we added some much needed comfort. We are EXTREMELY happy with our purchase and will admit that we also tend to sleep better....occasionally.....in the camper.
You will find a link to the queen size topper we purchased that fit perfectly on our stock mattress. Check out the reviews on the website and BUY W/ CONFIDENCE!

Where did you put the pump? We have the sleep number bed in our spare bedroom and was thinking of putting it in our 5er but I thought the pump placement would cause a problem.

We got the same foam king mattress as in the house, so we wouldn't know the difference of where we are sleeping
the one that came with the rv is still in it's plastic in the storage building out back !

We ended up getting the Serenia Sleep 6-Inch RV Mattress, Short Queen at Amazon. $250 at the time, its now $293.
No regrets. Fits perfect. More comfortable than our home pillowtop. Added additional strut to lift bed for storage for 25 bucks.

The only problem with using a "regular" mattress (meant for the bedroom) instead of an RV mattress is that a regular one doesn't react well to extreme temperatures, which is usually the case off-season in RVs. This goes especially if you have a mattress made out of memory foam (low temperatures can make the memory foam lose its elasticity). I don't know much about mattresses, but these guys from ( moderator edit ) answered all the questions I had about RV mattresses. So if in doubt you can even contact them...

Never heard that in my long rv life -
BUT, low temps to us are in the teens very, VERY rarely - not like 'youses guys'

I have had property adjacent to the Allegheny National Forest Hickory Creek Wilderness Area for 25 years now. For the first 16 years we had a older mobile home and than 11 years ago we built our cabin. Neither of those were ever heated when we were not there and our winters can go below zero often. We used normal "household" mattresses in both and have never had any problems. Well, yes if we get there late on a cold day, the bed is pretty cold when you first got in!
Too bad you don't know much about mattresses!
