Rear Stabilizer and winter "storage".
Do you put the rear stabilizers down in the winter when it is not being used?
I have the last 2 winters - only because I forgot to raise them before I took the battery out.
Left them up this winter.
What do others do?

Always left them up. We don't go in it at all, but if we did have to use it, it doesn't take much to put them back down.

I never put them down for the winter storage.
Actually, mine are only down when we are camping.

That's something i never thought of. I always leave my stabilizers down when I have it parked in my driveway. Mostly because I go on the rig from time to time and it makes it less bouncy. Is there any concrete reason to leave them up in winter? Or any time for that matter?

Your choice, but agree if not using, why have them down ...

The question I'm asking is "why have them up"? Will the wear better that way? is that the thing?
Thanks!
Mike

I agree. My concern is, especially in the winter, that as the temperature decreases and the tire pressures along with it, the amount of weight that the stabilizers are supporting will be increasing. If the camper is completely shaded, it probably wouldn't be a problem, but if one side is in the sunlight the tire pressures will not be constant from side to side and more pressure will be exerted on one stabilizer than the other. Would 3 or 4 months of this lead to twisting the frame?

If you end up with tire/tires going low or flat when your rig is in storage or sitting outside all by it's lonesome, and you have the jacks down, I can almost guaranty, you will end up damaging something.

I leave mine up. Some folks fabricate blocks to place under axels. I would not do that either.

I always leave mine down when it is parked. I raise them a little more when I put it away for the winter to take some weight off of the tires during the winter. I also think it would be better for the springs.

Rear stablizers are designed to aid in removing movement when parked. They are not meant to raise and support the trailer.
