+1 to that!
I was given this warning by an experienced RVer when we first started camping and it is true but I also got soaked this summer at the beach when apparently a puddle had formed near the edge of the awning and a breeze lifted it just enough to get the water moving and the water came rolling off. I just happened to be pulling the grey water dump valve (which is right beside the slide out on my 5er) at that moment and when the water hit me I had a moment of profound confusion. I have seen people get "sprayed" when their sewer hose came off or sprung a big leak so when I got wet from above I was very confused and startled for a moment.
After I had changed clothes it was sort of funny.
I would definitely have the awnings on any slideouts I had. The benefits certainly outweigh any negatives that I could come up with. (Even unexpected ones!)
