Hi Skip, I read your comment with interest since we are still on the fence about slid covers. Most everything everyone has said that has them is pretty positive, "don't flap in the wind", don't collect water", "snow slides off when closed", etc. Now you say "throw a rope over them to keep them from flapping" and "beach balls so they don't collect water". Are you speaking first hand that you have experienced these problems? Could you elaborate?

I do not do any thing to ours the have not have had the flaping people talk about, the only waring I have is do not stand near them when the slide is being retracted after a rain. I did after three days of rain bring the slides in part way and than out just to remove the water

+1 to that!I was given this warning by an experienced RVer when we first started camping and it is true but I also got soaked this summer at the beach when apparently a puddle had formed near the edge of the awning and a breeze lifted it just enough to get the water moving and the water came rolling off. I just happened to be pulling the grey water dump valve (which is right beside the slide out on my 5er) at that moment and when the water hit me I had a moment of profound confusion. I have seen people get "sprayed" when their sewer hose came off or sprung a big leak so when I got wet from above I was very confused and startled for a moment. After I had changed clothes it was sort of funny.I would definitely have the awnings on any slideouts I had. The benefits certainly outweigh any negatives that I could come up with. (Even unexpected ones!)

We are on our third unit with slides and have never had them & prefer it that way. The amount of grief I have witnessed others have with them regarding noise & shake and the amazing things they do to make them coexist still makes me very pleased with our decisions. It is very creative territory as they use Basket balls, carpet cores, additional tiedowns, Styrofoam blocks of all types of configurations between the awning & the slide roof. We have throughly enjoyed over the years watching the needed creativity to use them..It is amazing in one C/G we use regularly there are normally a lot of big class A's and any time a slight breeze comes up it sounds like a bunch of zippers going up as the slides go in to prevent the annoyance they say happens in the coach from the covers rattling.
