Mounted extra stabilizer jacks to ST270BH
Hello,
I'm sure others have done this sort of thing before, but I wanted to pass the idea along.
I mounted a scissor stablizer jack on both sides (each rated at 7500lbs. each) just forward of the wheels. So on the main entrance it's between the door and wheels, and on the other side it will be under the slide out.
The added firmness is amazing. I've never tried xchocks, but I can't imagine that they make the unit feel more solid than this. Personally, I like this concept more...these are permanently mounted and nothing required to store and put on/take off (not that it's THAT big of a deal).
I am debating adding the other 2 jacks just for overkill, or replacing the back two stock jacks with these.
Anyway.. just wanted to share.
On a side note, our first 'real' camping trip in our new 270BH is this weekend -weather and life-events permitting (knock on wood)!
-Mike

Good luck on your trip. Keep us posted if it helped keep the bounce out of the trailer when your moving around.

Absolutely.. essentially that's all these are (or rather that's how I'm using them), only with more load capacity. They were a gift from my wonderful mother, and I think she went overboard. But they're certainly more sturdy that what comes from the factory.

What brand are they and where did she purchase? Might be something to check into. Also, did you have them welded to the frame or bolted?
TIA

I got two of the Valterra stabilizers. I was really surprised how much "rock" they took out.

I use the JT Strong Arms on my old trailer and will be installing them on the new one when it gets here. It made a big difference but I still get some flexing due to the span between the front and rear jacks. I think the added stabilizer jacks will take the weight off the springs which will prevent the frame from flexing in the middle. That's why the newer trailer are going to the 6 point leveling systems.

I was considering taking these 4 new stabilizer/jacks I got and replacing the 4 stock ones in the corners with these to use as leveling jacks, then remounting two of the stabilizers back in the middle again for the firming up.
But I'm a little worried about frame flex. So for now I'm just going to level the old fashioned way by driving up on blocks and using the tongue jack as necessary.
Anyone have thoughts on leveling a sunset trail with level jacks? Can the frame handle it?

Do not level your trailer with stabilizing jacks. Also does bolting or welding extra jacks to your frame void the warranty?

I should clarify that I meant using 'real' jacks, (which these new ones that i have are) not stabilizer jacks, which the oem ones are.
Good question about the warranty!
I don't know the answer. I can't see how it would, since they've drilled holes all up and down the frame to but the under body cover on, but I know that logic isn't often part of policy. So it's definitely worth looking into.

It use to void the warranty. So unless Lippert has changed their policy, it still does.

I just called the service dept. of our dealer, and they said it does NOT void the warranty so long that you do NOT use them to level the trailer, but just adding stabilizers doesn't void warranty.

Not to be a jerk, but I would not trust the dealer. I would call Crossroads and get there opinion on the warranty.

Better yet, I would call Lippert. They are the one's who manufactured the frame, and the one's with the warranty on the frame.

I just got off the phone with Lippert:
Manual scissor stabilizer jacks will NOT void the warranty on our unit. They did not indicate whether they would on others, or if an electric version would. I didn't ask beyond our scenario.
So there you have it. Thanks for the idea to call them.
