Photography Show

As some of you know, those who have attended recent rallies, one of my other hobbies is photography. Earlier this month I entered 2 of my photos in an annual show at Art Works gallery in Richmond, Virginia. They have many art shows during the year for all media: paintings, sculpture, photography, etc. However, once a year they have a show for photography only. This year is their 19th "Simply Photography" show. It is a juried show, and this year's juror was a professional photographer from the Richmond area.

The entries that were accepted can be seen here: Simply Photography 2022 | Art Works Inc.

One of my entries, "Waiting to Serve Again," was judged 1st Place.

This is from a photo shoot put on by the Camera Club of Richmond in January 2020. We were at a trucking company about 45 miles west of Richmond. The owner of the trucking company (who passed away 3 or 4 years ago) collected old trucks, cars and farm equipment. There are 3 or 4 large metal buildings on the property that are packed with old vehicles. Behind one of the buildings is an old milk truck. I photographed it from the outside and decided to walk around and shoot it from another angle. The passenger door was open, and I noticed the boots sitting in the windshield, just begging me to photograph them.

I originally posted the photo in color, but later decided to reprocess it as a black & white. I entered it in the Camera Club of Richmond's 2021 end of year competition where it won 1st place in the black & white pictorial category. So, in January I decided to enter it into the Art Works gallery show. "Meditation," my other entry in the show (which can be seen by clicking the link in my original post) won the 2021 Phillip Luce Award for the Best Digital Black & White photo in the Camera Club's end of year competition. On the gallery's web site it is the 4th photo in the left hand column below the group of 4 winners.

The technical information: I took it with a Canon EOS RP with Canon RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3 lens, 1/80 second at f/7.1 and ISO 400.

You can see more photos from the shoot here: P. L. Duncan Trucking - Visit 3

Here is a view from Google Earth of the site and one of my photos of the outside of the milk truck.

The boots really draw your eyes and for me, become the focal point of the pic. I thought you must have placed them there - so much better they were there waiting for you to discover them! My wife and I call that a Godwink!

Great picture, I think black and white is perfect. BTW, that is an old DIVCO milk truck. Years back I drove one in summers during college. Made by Detroit Industrial Vehicle Company--real classics now if you find a restored one.

I actually gave the camera that I took that photo with to my younger son. I took it with a Canon EOS RP, my first mirrorless full-frame detachable lens camera. When I got my Canon EOS R5 I gave the RP to my son. My other entry in the show, the black and white image of the nude woman kneeling on the stool, was taken with the newer R5.

Kemp, just tell Tommy you took it with a camera, not a cell phone.

BTW Kemp, great work, you should be proud of yourself.

Yes I don't know much about photography but I can appreciate excellence when I see it...I have several paintings from local artists, and stain glass pieces, plus many craft pieces around our house...In my opinion I would much rather buy these things from talented people in out country than the CHINA JUNK our retailers sell...
BUT what really got my attention was the Autocar truck, the cab over Ford, and the milk truck, in the link to Duncan Trucking...I love cars and trucks, especially older models from when I was growing up, and actually worked at Autocar factory in Exton Pa. back in the 80's, and when I was a kid the milkman that delivered milk to our house drove one of those trucks...
Mark this was not a rebuke to your post I got the tongue in cheek...Just a comment for the forum and a little trip down memory lane...

No problem Tommy, I remember our milk man who delivered milk right to our door and a baker that went door to door had those Duncan trucks. Wonder how many are still around or restored?

I'm so glad you enjoyed my photos Tommy. If you enjoyed the other photos from the truck graveyard you will probably really enjoy some of my other albums. From the Duncan link you can click the "Back to albums list" link and see all of my albums. You would probably enjoy the 2 albums from the Keystone Truck and Tractor Museum. The museum has hundreds of restored vintage cars, trucks and farm equipment, some dating back 100 years or more. The restorations are top notch. There are also albums from many car shows there too.
