GEO Method states measurements in dry powder. I can get Calgon in liquid form. How much of the liquid should be used?

It depends on how big your tank is.
I don't think it's real critical. I dump in about a cap full.

Sorry, but I've never heard of using a method designed to fix an admitted problem as a routine maintenance procedure.

I guess I don't know what you are getting at.
The Geo method is a procedure that they came up with to use on the holding tanks on Rvs to take the place of the harsh chemicals that were being used at that time.
I don't know what's not to understand about a procedure that is environmentally friendly.

The Geo Method is twofold.
- It is used as preventive maintenance so you do not have a sludge problem in your black tank
- It is used as a way to fix a sludge problem in your tank if you do not thoroughly keep your tank clean and run into a problem.
I'm very sure that not everyone keeps their black tank as clean as they should. If they start to run into draining problems they can start to use the Geo Method to help get rid of the problem.
After they get their tank clean, they should regularly use the Geo Method to prevent sludging from happening again.
Capisce??

How big is your tank? My black tank is 40 gal. Would a capful do it?

It's called prevention. In medicine we call it prophylaxis. Think of it this way... why do you change your oil if it's not a problem? Preventative maintenance.

From the Geo Method website:
Quote:
This stuff is amazing and it works. Buy a couple of boxes of powdered water softener at the grocery store. You'll find it located with or near the laundry detergent products. I prefer Calgon Water Softener because it dissolves quickly in water. Cheaper water softeners work just as well but dissolve more slowly. Dissolve two (2) cups of the water softener in a gallon of hot water. Then, pour the solution down the drain into the empty tank. Use two cups of softener for each wastewater tank in your RV. The tank's drain valve should be closed otherwise the softened water will just drain out. Then use the tank(s) normally until it is full and drain it normally. Add a cup of laundry detergent to the black (commode) water tank at the same time you add water softener. This will help clean the tank. The gray water tanks should already contain soap through normal use. Water softener makes the solid waste let go from the sides of the tanks. If you've ever taken a shower in softened water you know that after rinsing the soap from your body your skin will feel slick. That's because all the soap rinses away with soft water. Softened water also prevents soap scum from sticking in the tub. Get the connection? With softened water gunk washes away instead of sticking. The same thing applies to your RV's wastewater tanks.

Fatboy666, again, it is not treating a problem; it is preventing one. If you don't believe in preventive maintenance there's nothing we could say at this point to change your mind. There are very fine explanations posted here that explains most of our reasons for doing this but apparently you cannot "see the point" as you stated. So as far as I'm concerned it will be a waste of our time to explain further.

This is the first I've heard of this. So, is the "Geo Method" in addition to or in lieu of the enzyme packets and liquid additives? The packages indicate they are environmentally friendly.

The geo method is an alternative to the drop in packs. Most feel it is a more effective way of managing your tanks.

Fat boy and other questioners......when you shower with soft water , it feels like you can not get the slippery soap off your body ,that is what happens to the walls and bottom of the black tank then every thing inside the tank just slides out when you dump your tank...simple.
Easy to do and cheaper than chemical products. What is the problem with suggestions and if you want to do it the old way ...go ahead . I tried the geo method and it works. If you don't want to , keep smelling the chemicals then.

Please. I'm not asking you to explain anything. Just challenging tribal wisdom. Just because "everyone does it" doesn't mean everyone should.

So do you not check your brakes, rotate your tires or change your oil either? I would rather spend a little bit of money and time in prevention then a lot of money and time in repairs. You know what they say about an ounce of prevention, in this case it is literally true.
