I used a carpet shampooer the other day and let it dry for a good 24 to 36 hours with the fan on before putting the slides in. We went camping this past weekend and when I put the slide out I got a musty/smelly shoe smell. I got some odor killer down and that didn't really work. I then put a box fan on it for a good 2 days with all the windows open and air on. By the end of the weekend it seemed to be better, but I guess I'll find out for sure this weekend. Has anyone else had this issue and if so how long did it take to get rid of the smell.
Thanks for the info

Have used a shampooer throughtout the years. Have had good success with it. Like said above, you must make sure it is totally dry before closing slides. I use the Bissell Allergen cleaning formula. No musky smell, no any smell. Neighbor uses OxyClean in his shampooer and also has good results. He said the formula is on the container. Good luck.

Chris, I have done them on our trailer a couple of times. Ours is stored inside a fully enclosed storage unit and we left the slides open and the roof vents open for a week before we closed it back up. Never had any issue with bad smells or odors. Now we did ours in temps that were 90* + the week it was drying.

You may do well to shampoo again then allow several days to dry before you close up. Fans help just like if you forget a load of clothes in the washer rewash and it takes care of the smell. Been there done that. Bissell is a good proiduct.

Thanks for the input, I was thinking about doing them again if the smell isn't gone when I go out to storage Friday to bring her home.

Best to run AC after cleaning carpets! Run the AC and a fan if you have it, but close the windows. You need to get the humidity out in order for it to dry.

As long as you are plugged into a 30amp service.

I've done mine many times, but in the late fall when I have the heat running. Always dries within 1 day.

We have ours done as needed, and have never had an issue with smell. The carpet seems dry by the time we pick it up, and then we just get as much airflow as possible, and run the heater when we get home.

I did run the AC, but I had the windows open. I just brought her home and I think I'm good. I couldn't really smell it anymore. Thanks for everyone's response.

Yes...Run the heat if it is cold out...but better to run the AC. Part of what your AC does is pull the humidity "water" out. This is why it drips outside. Cleaned carpets when I was younger. AC does a better job of drying.

when I first bought my Z1 I immediatly applied scotch gaurd to ALL the carpeting in the camper. after returning from our disney trip of having 7 people, 4 of them teanagers I saw that the carpet was matted down with stains and lots of filth. hit it with a good vaccuum and a normal steam clean and its as good the day I bought it. I'll be applying a new coat of scotch gaurd this upcoming weekend.
