We went to the Crossroads Factory Rally and decided since we had come so far that we would stay a bit longer (a full week total). We had some factory service done, and spent a day in Elkhart, about 30 minutes west of Shipshewana where we were based.
There is an attraction worth a visit there: the RV/MH Hall of Fame. There is an area with many older trailers and motor homes. Some you can actually go inside. It was very interesting! They also have a display of some modern units and a very interesting small scale model of an trailer factory. An audio track takes you through the building of the trailers. The display was very much like what we saw in the factory tour.
There are a number of statues of elk painted in different patterns throughout Elkhart.
If you find yourself in this area, the RV/MH Hall of Fame is well worth a visit.
Shipshewana itself is also a tourist destination. There are many interesting shops as well as a large flea market Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
