In early February we took delivery of a new Rushmore 35ck. Since then we have blown 5 of the Halogen recessed bulbs (G-4 bulbs) in the ceiling. These bulbs are not cheap at all and I'm wondering why so many are going bad so soon.

I have two specific questions. 1) Is anybody else experiencing this problem and if so, have you found a solution that works? We have never experienced anything like this before in our many others trailers but have never had this type lighting before. 2) Can we replace these bulbs with LED bulbs instead of the Halogen ones and will they last longer?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Hey there y'all. Don't know 'bout the LED's, but have had the same probs with bulbs when first inhabiting this Rushmore. Complained to CR and they sent me several. Went to Owners Rally in Indiana last year and the crew went through and, I think, seperated a couple wires going to the light sockets, and replaced the burnt bulbs. Make sure when you handle any of the bulbs to use a glove, tissue or something so you don't physically touch them with your bare fingers. The 'burn-out' rate has reduced drastically. Congrats on the new rig and have fun! Have you considered the Owners in Indiana this year? Good fun and GOOD PEOPLE!

X2 on what Ruck said about handling the bulb. I had the same issue in my Seville when new but after replacing most of them, the problem went away. Suspect installers left grease on them, a no-no for halogen bulbs.

Willie, good to hear from you. Are you still blowing the bulbs since we compared notes "back home"? Was glad to see y'all made it to BH all safe and sound.

Ruck & GaPete: I, too, was wondering if the bulbs were installed with bare fingers. I already have my surgical gloves all handy for replacements.

Just FYI to all ... we found the bulbs at a local WalMart today at about half the price they are at Lowes and Home Depot. I now have a supply to use since I'm sure I'll replace them all sooner or later.

Have had my trailer for a year, RK36SF, Have not had any bulbs burn out. But when I first took delivery I was gathering replacment fuses and bulbs for a kit. Found the G4 halogens extremely expensive, I picked up 24 bulbs on ebay for under $10, Beware of auctions that deliver from outside US as the shipping could be many times more than the cost of the item.
