6.2l F 250 SD gas
I'm in. The process of upgrading my tow vehicle from '14 f150 EB to tow an 8300# loaded TT. I've tentatively selected the F250 SD 6.2l primarily because of the spec'd towing weight of 12500#. I read through an earlier thread by Noodles comparing 6.2 gas and 6.7diesel where majority of members favored the diesel. It seemed that the predominant reasons were towing power and mileage. What I didn't see was anyone speaking up for the 6.2l SD. DOES ANYONE LIKE THIS TRUCK AS A TOW VEHICLE? I'd appreciate some feedback. Thanks

I know this isn't what you are asking, but-----
If your 14 Eco-Boost has max tow and max pay, you already have plenty of truck to handle the trailer you mentioned.
My Eco is rated at 11,100#

I have a 3.31 rear without a tow package. Straight and level is fine. Big rigs make a huge difference in sway. Trains drops to 3rd gear on long uphill slopes. New Reese anti sway hitch helps some. Rated for 9400# towing.

When i bot our rv, had a 6.0 L gas GMC. Got 6.5 mpg and motor was screaming to accel. and on any hill. Traded for ford 6.7 powerstoke. Difference is more than I could believe. Get 12 mpg towing, accel. is awesome, pulls hills like a dream. If u pull many miles and can afford a diesel, they are unbeatable.

I can see why you are considering up grading your truck. Without the max pay and max tow, you just don't have enough truck. Especially with that gear ratio. Probably have p rated tires also. That makes the problem that much worse when you meet a big rig or towing in the wind.
I don't know anything about the 6.2 so can't comment on that. I will say if there is a bigger RV coming in the future, by all means go with a diesel.

My work truck has the 6.2 and is does a good job of towing. I am not towing a travel trailer, but I do tow heavy loads. (skid loader & scissor lift not at the same time) It has no problems. We just bought a 2016 Chevy 2500HD 6.0 to pull our TT. Our 2002 Suburban had a 8.1 and the truck is just as good or better. What will be the biggest difference is the bigger brakes and suspension. I am sure the diesel would give you more power, at a bigger price, but I have no problem with the gas engines.

I own a 2015 F-250 SD 6.7l diesel 4X4 short bed. Love the truck. I use it to tow a 2013 32' CRST 5er. Trailer weighs in around 9.5K pounds wet. This truck and engine has plenty of torque and gets around 11 to 12 mph towing. This is my 3rd F-250 SD. I previously owned a '05 6.0L and a '98 7.3L. The 6.0L turbo engine was junk. I had to rebuild the turbo 5 times in less than 60K miles. Sold it and bought the '15. A friend bought my '98 12 years ago and is still driving it and has had no issues with it with 250K miles on the odometer.

If you want the 6.2L you could always go for one of these. The 2018 Ford F150 Shelby 750HP. Saw this one at a show this weekend. The price tag on it was $102,000.00.

I have a 1015 F 250 with the 6.2 gas engine. I have towed a 30re about 8,000 pounds loaded over 14,000 miles in the last two and a half years. I could not be any happier with this setup. I have been from Florida to New York three times and have towed in West Virginia and Kentucky. The truck pulls great in the mountains and every road I have been on. Of course up steep grades the truck will drop to third and the rpms will go up, but this is how gasoline engines work. Towing MPGs range from 8 in the mountains and 9.5 on flat ground.
Prior to this setup I had a Duramax dually and towed a 37' Excell fifth wheel. So I have experience towing with diesel and gas. Both trucks were great and did what they were supposed to do. I bought the 6.2 because I am towing under 10,000lbs, wanted to save eight thousand dollars and keep maintenance expense low. I can get an oil change and tire rotation at by local ford dealer for 29 bucks.

I wish I had diesel every time I fill up when I am towing. Nice big straight lanes. Beyond that I can't offer anything.

Thanks for your input. I ended up buying a 2015 Super Duty 6.7l diesel short bed. I believe it's the same truck. It's a Lariat FX4 and I can't believe how comfortable this truck is.
Question: it has a 3.55 rear. Is this what you have? My TT is a Flagstaff 8300# loaded.

Did you go F-250, or F-350? I'd be curious to know the what the Tire and Loading sticker says on the inside door jam if it's an F-250. If you opt for the gas you can get over 3k payload in 250. But if you opt for diesel, i'm guessing that number is down to 2,400. Thanks for sharing!
