I have the HD payload and Max Tow, & 17" Lt's on my '13 xlt

The rear is a 3.73 AND a 6.5 foot bed. Checked the Ford site and you still can get the HD payload and Max tow as I have in my "13.

As far as the 402a package I could not justify over $5500 for it. I'd rather have the Max Payload.

I was in error on my previous post regarding the gear ratio. For some reason I had it stuck in my head the gear ratio was lower then 3.73.
Anyway that is exactly what I have.

So mmuha was correct in telling the op to opt for the 3.73 rear end.
Looks like mark and I have the exact same trucks.

I agree with Anaro - Skip the Nissan. Your TT is too big for that.

I know a few guys with the F150 Eco. We are looking 3/4 ton, but have considered the F150 Eco.

You had me second guessing myself for a second. You're right in that you lose MPG's with the 17" 10 plys (about 2mpgs for me) and the 3.73s.

I split the difference and got 3.55s. Still tows great for my TT and mpgs are in high teens low 20s. I drive mostly highway.

OK., great conversation here on towing, I bought 10 plys for my F150. Anyone rolling on 10 plys out there? I want to know if I an use them for my daily driving to work and back or if I should buy a second set of tires/rims with stock 17s.

I'm getting about 2 mpgs less right now with the 10 plys, but im more concerned about ride quality (which is hard) and tire wear. They dont have a tread warranty.

I have the 10 ply 17" LT's and my ride is great. What you would spend for the new rims and tires will pay for the small loss of mpg. I usually get about 20 - 22 mpg on the road and around 10 - 12 mpg towing.
Often the brand of tires makes a difference in the ride quality. My tires are Bridgestone.

As someone who has a couple of kids and just swapped out my SUV for a 2500 Ram Mega cab I can say in the cab of this truck there is plenty of space. Now it is a long truck so you need to be prepared for that..

My truck came with 10 ply tires on 17 in. rims.

If your ride is harsh, what are you running for air pressure? 10 ply tires will ride a little harsher, but you can help that by lowering your air pressure.
Myself, I wouldn't spend the money on another set of tires and rims just to try and improve the ride or the mileage.
I have never seen towing mileage as good as what Mark states.
I think he must tow down hill and with a good tail wind.

When we went to CO. last year, I seen mpg from just over 11, all the way down to 6.5 when we were coming home. There was a tremendous side wind on the way back.
I think we averaged around 9 mpg.

Running empty it depends on the temperature. This time of the year, 15 to 18. In the summer, 20 to 22.5

My Silverado came from the factory with them, so I have nothing to compare the mileage to.

If you do lower the tire pressure watch it as the summer comes on....lower tire pressure.. faster tire heating. So remember to keep closer check in the summer. And my two cents....tire brand is VERY important. A lot of the name brands have road hazard and other replacement programs in place.

A note about buying another set of tires and rims for when not towing. You may also have to buy the Ford TPMS sensors and they aren't cheap. I know on all 3/4t and up from early 2009 they are required by big brother. You can't turn them off or bypass them. I don't know about the 1/2t trucks.

So I looked up TPMS, its not what i was originally thinking. I assumed it tracked actual pressure and transmitted to a readout in the dash. TPMS has a threshold that triggers a dummy light.

I misunderstood and yes, I checked the manual and I'm legal.

How does the system know when I swap out LT tires for 10-ply (go from 32 running psi up to , oh about 55-80)??
