You read my mind Lloyd!

I love my GM, but an F150 STX with a 5.0L twin-turbo Ecoboost would definitely sway me!!

From online source "Horsepower Kings"

Quote:
“The EcoBoost 5.0 V8 program has been under development for a several years, and first made it’s public appearance in the Cobra Jet program in late-2012. The underlying purpose of the EcoBoost V8 project was to power the next-gen GT500. The 5.2L FPC program contributed to delaying the 5.0 EcoBoost program, but this V8 Twin-Turbo program is now on track again, and will make it’s debut in the next GT500 and 2018 F-150 Raptor, and could possibly become a second-motor option for the 2017 model year Raptor”
We are also told that the new 10-speed automatic transmission that will be found in the 2016 3.5L V6 EcoBoost Raptor will be the same transmission utilized in the V8 Raptor, whether it goes on sale as a 2017 model year, or 2018.
Quote:
What is really interesting, we are told – is that this Twin-Turbo V8 could possibly make it’s way into other models of the Ford lineup. What could Ford stuff the EcoBoost V8 into, aside from the GT500 and Raptor?
“Ford has thrown quite a bit of resources and R&D into this V8 EcoBoost program, so don’t be surprised if you see it in other vehicles within Ford Performance in the future.”
Our guess is we will see the motor in other F-150 models, such as the FX4, Lariat and Platinum – possibly even the Super Duty models as an alternative to the 6.7L Powerstroke Diesel.

That might be enough to really put the hurts on the diesel.

It ain't going to happen, at least not anytime soon from what I heard today.
In fact, you can't even buy one built like mine any more. Well, not in the XLT
I guess you can order it in the work truck.

I love my truck!

2015 F150 XLT with 3.5 Ecoboost, 302A equiplment package, chrome package, and Max Tow. It is a (moderator edit) beast! We set it up with the Equal-i-zer WD/sway control and we tow a 2016 ST250RB. The trailer has an unladen weight around 5400 lbs (interesting they write this on the trailer in magic marker so I guess each one weighs a bit different) and a GVWR of 7764.

You don't even know the trailer is behind you except for the increased stopping distances.

I am blown away about how smart this truck is, too. The backup camera, tow/haul setting, etc. make it a dream to drive. And it is an absolute rocket!

Here are a few pics of our rig. Sorry for going on and bragging so much about it. Just feel so blessed right now.

Did I mention I love my truck?

Just so you are aware of it. You don't have the E rated tires on your truck.

Your stopping distance should not increase noticeably when towing. If it does, that means the truck brakes are stopping a significant portion of the trailer weight. Which means the trailer is pushing the truck and you are susceptible to jack-knifing under a hard stop and loosing directional control. With proper trailer brakes and brake controller setup, you should feel the trailer dragging on the truck during a stop.

I have the same truck except it's a Lariat. Lots of tricks I probably don't need but love it. Regarding the braking, I noticed the same thing at first. I adjusted the trailer brakes and then increased the in cab trailer brake controller. I often ride with it maxed out at "10", or slightly lower. It has good braking now.

Thx for the pointers. Got her on 6 now. Will play around with a higher setting when we get her out again over the holidays to head south....guess I need to understand the tire thing, too. Are you saying Ford ships these trucks with inadequate tires?

No, I'm not saying Ford ships their trucks with inadequate tires. What I'm saying is you don't have E rated tires with 7 lug rims on your truck. I could see in the pic that you have 6 bolt rims. That tells me you don't have both max tow and max pay load.
More then likely you have the D tires. You might want to check it out. The tire load rating will be on the sidewall. It's just something to be aware of. Those lighter tires tend to get a little squishy when you put to much weight on them, and being lighter they don't recommend the air pressure that an E tire does.

Do yourself a favor and check what it states on the tire sidewall---not the window sticker.

I also have the max trailer tow package. I guess we are missing the max payload package if Lloyd is correct. Just make sure you max out your rear tire air pressure when you tow. I have no squishiness my max air is 50 lbs. also,,I just installed the Firestone air springs. I suspect they will take out any sway that was left. I haven't had a chance to use them yet. They install easy and are not very expensive, great reviews.

Rating is 2755 lbs at 51 psi....have never changed the tire pressure on our trips from the 35 we picked it up with...learning something new! So I guess the ride/handling will improve that much more at a higher psi? And I thought it already handled like a dream. You guys really go that high on the rears? How about the fronts?

Know we are off topic now, but appreciate it...

3.73 is the lowest gear ratio I could get with my packages.
Fronts have to match.

Not only does it take out any squishiness you might have, but the tires won't get hot when they are firm, so they last longer. I don't think you need to max out the front air pressure because you have no extraweight on the front, but someone may suggest otherwise. When you are not towing, go back to the 35 or recommended lb pressure so you get a softer ride.

Scott, also be sure to keep your trailer tires maxed out on air pressure.
