Hot wire on 7 pin plug
I have a '13 F 150 SCREW. Is there a hot pin on the 7 pin connector that is hot even when the truck is turned off? Which pin is hot when ignition is on?

I was curious when I saw this post. First you are very internet savy, and I was interested in the info. I searched and found I could not find a definative answer. I imagined you had a similiar experience. So now I am most curious and will follow this thread.
Chime in please.

You peaked my curiosity so I grabbed my multimeter and went out to my truck. In fairness I have a 2010 f250 but I'm sure most all are wired similarly. The 12 volt pin (pin #4) is constant 12 volts only when the switch is on. The other pins for the lights work same as the truck lights do (ie flashers work regardless of if the switch is on or not).

There is not a constant energized 12 volt pin with the vehicle off as that would lead to many dead tow vehicle batteries. We wouldn't want that, I'm sure! Pin #4 is energized with vehicle switch on and normally used for battery charging.

If you need an always hot connector like I did for my horse trailer interior lights you could do what I did and take the center pin which is for back up lights, which most trailers don't have, and wire it to always be on.

As you look at the front of the plug--(plug facing you)
The hot/battery power lead would be the one immediately just right of the top.
Like all have stated, it's only hot when the ignition switch is on.
Check it out with a multi meter some time when you think of it.

I am trying to wire a led tail light bar.
It says to run hot wire to battery. I thought it might be easier to tap into the 7 pin connector.
Thanks for all the help.
When I get back from camping I'll see what I can do.

Tail light would be the one on the left of the top when looking at the plug.

The tail lights, turn signals, and brake lights plug into the 4 pin plug of the truck. So the wire I have to tap is a hot wire and run another up to the back up lights wire.

Thanks for putting that up. I was going to do it last night but I was on the wrong PC. I didn't have the pic in that one.

When I attach the wire I'll use a temporary tap to see how it works. If it works, I'll make a permanent connection and water proof it.
Thanks again for all the help.

Unrelated sidebar:
On the trailer pigtail, a standard automotive fuse can be used to jump running lights and battery - making them light up at night.

Just tap into your license plate light. It's just next to where you want to place your 3 light bar and it only operates when your lights are turned on. A simple connection and you're done.
No need for messing with your 7 pin.

The bar includes turn signals, sequential amber indicators, taillights, reverse lights, running lights and hazards. So it has to be powered all the time the truck is turned on, not just when the lights are on.

Mark5w, I'm curious about that light bar. Do you have a website link by chance?

Looking at the functions, you should have 3 powering wires and a ground.
If you have a separate 4 pin connector besides your 7 pin as many vehicles do, just hook into this to simplify. One is left turn, one is right turn, one is running lights, and the last one is ground.
Stop lights work through the turn signal connections.
If not, just use those same connections on the 7 way and you're set.
You won't use the HOT line in the 7 pin you asked about. That connector doesn't affect the lighting system.
