Weight distribution hitches when adjusted properly transfer hitch weight to the truck's front and rear axle and the trailer axles. If adjusted correctly and the truck drops 2" in the rear so should the front.

Back in the day Reese had a interesting ad showing what there hitch could do. They used a Olds Toronado and hooked up to a tandem axle boat trailer with boat and a travel trailer then took the back wheels off the car. The Toronado was front wheel drive. They would have these as display at camper shows showing the benefits of there hitch.https://books.google.com/books?id=N9...%20add&f=false

The above not only shows the car with travel trailer but explains the equalizing principle. Interesting read.

After deciding to run without the WD bars I readjusted the ball height so that the truck and trailer run in a level condition.

Getting the truck riding level with almost 1000lbs on the rear bumper isn't really a possibility without installing air bags or some other sort of helper system (like a WD hitch).

My 1-ton dually drops in the rear (and raises in the front) when the WD hitch is not engaged. You may have gotten the trailer to ride level by raising the hitch.

Just make sure you replace all those bearings on all four wheels.. probably ready for a full service based on the fact you just had one fail.

Good luck and happy camping.

Already planning full service on remaining 3. My ball drops 1" when trailer is loaded. Not much rise in front but haven't measured. I'll take a closer look. Thx for the feedback.

Safe and Happy Camping to you as well!
