Hi! We are working on our first TT purchase and seriously considering the Sunset Trail 270BH. Since we are normally tent campers we are looking for any advice on the purchase and the 270 BH. Thanks!

Great unit. Get a good deal. The MSRP on mine was $33,400 and I paid $19,500 plus tax and license.

I can't give you any specific advice on the 270BH. All I will say though is make sure the floorplan is the one that fits your family. Then stay safe and have fun. Also welcome to the forum.

Get the dealer to throw in as many extras as possible. Sewer hose, vent covers, screens for outside opening, hose etc.
We have been very happy with ours although a different model. Good luck and enjoy.

Spend a day going over the whole trailer doing aPre delivery Inspection (PDI), have the dealer show you how to use everything and verify everything works. If it helps video tape it and you can refer to it later incase you forget. Check all the seams for sealant, and check all the lights, also look at all the screws and bolts, as they tend to over torque and break them at the factory. Have the dealer fix anything before you take delivery. Good luck. I hope you love your trailer as much as we love ours.

Get the deler to throw in a good wdh with integrated sway contol like equal-i-zer or Reese dual cam. for a TT that long you do not want a friction control sway system. make sure the unit is well under all wight restrictions on your tow vehicle (remember you will never tow a dry or unloaded TT and the TT weight and tongue weight increases with propane, battery, camping gear, clothes, etc). Sit inside it and act out everyones daily activities (ie mom cooking, dad watching tv or walking to bathroom, kids playing Etc), imagine where you will put stuff (ie moms clothes in this cabinet, kids toys in that drawer, dishes in that cabinet and chairs in this outside cabinet etc).
Videotape your pdi and try to leave my kids home with a sitter for this. Have them demonstrate and you return the demo on everything. If it opens, closes, turns on or off, moves etc, you want it shown. This includes but is not limited to: dump valves, awnings, low point drains, cabinets, AC and heat, etc, have them show you winterization and de winterization process on your TT.If they install the wdh/sway control have them show you how to hook it up and unhook it. Pay close attention to how everything is connected and then practice it again as soon as you get home. Then go to here to see how to adjust the wdh as most rv dealerships don't get you dialed in correctly on the wdh. Most importantly enjoy and come back here with pics.

It sounds like you do not have a trade in - the dealer has allot of room to negotiate. RVs have about a 20% or better markup.
Looks like you have a good layout if you have children - when they no longer camp with you you will want a layout without bunks. Speaking from experience.
Make sure you have the right vehicle to tow it - leave yourself some margin on the tow rig towing capacity.

This is all very helpful. Anyone have ideas on negotiation tactics? We've been all over the internet and the dealer price seems reasonable...again being new to this I'm not sure what's unreasonable. The MSRP is 33,315 and the ask is 23,995 including hitch work. We've also done our research on weight so I feel good there. I had no idea how many items must be considered!

You can bet he's going to try and get every dollar he can out of you.
If you haven't made him an offer yet----offer $19,000. If he wants to sell, he will make a counter offer back. It can get to be fun after awhile.

Where are you located? Get a quote from Randy here and have your dealer match or beat it.

his asking price is 70% off listed msrp. I would try to be out the door, tax, tags, title, and good wdh w/ integrated sway control installed (make sure of type and hitch brand before signing on the line) around 21-22k. like Lloyd suggested, start around $19 and see what you can get.

Ok will definitely give it a shot. We are located in Georgia so I'm not sure they will argue much with a quote from Wisconsin but we are going to call for a quote just to see. We've been known to travel for a good deal There was mention of making sure the hitch equipment is good. Are there certain brands that should be buyer beware or a recommendation?

Hitches that appear to be well liked: equal-i-zer, Reese dual Cam or strait line, Hensley arrow (top of line), propride (right up there with hensley arrow) and the new kid on the block Anderson. From what I have read it appears husky is a little below these. Not too sure where blue ox falls on the spectrum. I have the reese dual cam and it has served me well these past couple of years but I have nothing to really compare it to since my old horse trailer never had one.

I too am in the market for a 270BH in North Georgia , SE Tennessee area and would be interested in what you are able to purchase yours for. My TV will be a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7Hemi 3.92 which I think will be fine pulling that unit. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
