Changing over to led lights inside

I have purchased a new camper and was considering when I pick it up to purchase led lights to replace the 921 bulbs. Does anyone have any input yay or nay or what are good brands. Thanks

Are you sure your camper doesn't have LEDs from the factory? Some of the new rigs are coming with them now.

You will more then likely get a lot of different opinions here on LEDs.
I like the ones from here--

Already started this upgrade on our new zt32db and I've read a ton of info on various forums about brands. I would check out m4 products, already received a few and they arrived quickly in about 3 days and work great.

I've had good results with this eBay seller. I've had the lights for over two years with no problems. We're snow birds so the lights are in use for six months steady.

look at www.rvledbulb.com out of Mesa, AZ. Manufactured there and are very good. Replaced all my bulbs in my 5th wheel approximately 50 of them. Used the pure white and they are bright. Good warranty simple exchange policy. I broke a couple installing them and they still exchanged them no extra charge.

Thumbs up LED

Definately a good idea. I know it seems to be the norm in new trailers mine is a 2014 and did not have them. I got a lot of great input from the forum and ultimately this is what I got. I have been very happy with them. Be careful when installing them or any other LED ones.

Of all the LED sites I've seen posted lately none of them show adequate details about the replacement LEDs. You need to know the light output and beam angle of your replacement bulbs. superbrightleds.com gives you plenty of information on the bulbs you are buying do you can make an educated decision.

https://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/...,921T5,21,202:

A typical incandescent 921 bulb has a light output of about 320 lumens. You will never find a replacement LED bulb with that kind of power, and that is a good thing since the incandescents are too bright in my opinion. In our overhead ceiling lights we settled on 100 lumen replacements. Under "work areas" in the kitchen and dinette we used the 75 lumen, and in sleeping areas we put in 40 lumen replacements.

As far as beam angle goes, you will want to avoid the pancake style bulbs that only shoot light down in a 30-120 degree angle. There simply isn't enough angle to to properly diffuse the light in the housing. You will want a replacement bulb that has multiple LEDs arranged in a circular pattern giving you a 360 degree beam pattern.

If you are looking for information pertaining to lumen output etc, then read a little more on this site.

30 LEDs per board, putting out 1020 lumens.
I don't know where a better LED light can be found.

I got a lot of my LEDs from MiniInTheBox http://www.miniinthebox.com/led-lighting_c4685. They have almost anything you're looking for.

Just about anywhere else you will be able to find a better LED. Are you really suggesting everyone spend $50 per fixture to have a light output greater than the sun?

Nope, just suggesting people spend their money on something that will benefit them. I've tried just about every one of those LEDs and the most of them aren't worth the time and effort it takes. A lot are like using one of those tea candles.

In my opinion.

Antares,

There are multiple threads discussing this topic, Lloyd's point is you get what you pay for. I bought a bunch of replacements from aliexpress for around $1.16 a bulb. They work?.. yes, but clearly not the quality of lighting you'd expect to find in a residential LED bulb. The plastic resin setting in a couple of the ones I bought melted after a few hours of use from the heat that builds up in the fixture, albeit they still work. Fire hazard...maybe..The warmth and spectrum surely does not measure up to the bulbs from the higher end manufacturers. I agree that $24 a bulb is a bit steep, but if you never replace them again...well your call

I am just saying in response to Lloyd that it is crazy to spend a premium on lights that will give you a greater light output than a tanning booth , making them extremely undesirable. If you are the type that buys Monster cables, then Lloyd's lights are right for you.

If you look at my previous post on the subject I am also steering people away from the low-end replacement bulbs that have poor quality and no statement on it's actual specifications. I have used superbrightleds.com as a source of LEDs for many projects and I have found their bulb selection tools very helpful.

Welcome to the forum....X2 for the M4 bulbs. They were reasonably priced and have been working through cold and hot weather. Got them in 3-4 days too which was cool. I have not had any issues with them. I put warm white in the living spaces and cool white in bedroom and bathroom. I did use latex gloves for the install to keep hand oil off the bulb.

I am dithering over led's too. I have 5 double fixtures in the living area ceiling with 10 921 bulbs which are ok for ambient light but don't try to thread a needle. I want the brightest lights I can get. Other's mileage may be different. Ideally I would like bright lights with a dimmer.

Has anyone come up with a dimmer/bright led combo?

I think a dimmer is available, but is something that has to be wired in separately. Plus I'm not sure if LEDs like that or not.

I did it and am very happy. There are many brands and many prices. I found some on amazon for a reasonable price. Be sure you know how bright you want them.

My unit has bulbs with a different base than most of the ones above. I have the bi-pin bases in mine - G4.
