Rig Weight

I'm camping tonight at a campground near Wytheville, VA. The campground is near the exit off of I-81. There are also 5 truck stops nearby. When I got off the interstate I filled up my truck and went to a Cat Scale and weighed my rig. Then I checked in at the campground and setup my camper. I went back to the Cat Scale and reweighed the truck without the camper. Here are my results.

Truck GVWR: 10,000 lbs.
Front Axle Rating: 5,200 lbs.
Rear Axle Rating: 6,200 lbs.

First Weight
Steer Axle: 4,740 lbs.
Drive Axle: 5,360 lbs.
Trailer Axle: 8,120 lbs.
Gross Weight: 18,220 lbs.

Re-weight
Steer Axle: 4,860 lbs.
Drive Axle: 3,700 lbs.
Gross Weight: 8,560 lbs.

By my calculations the trailer weighs 9,660 lbs. and I have a pin weight of 1,660 lbs.

I am carrying about 20 gallons of fresh water and have about 15 gallons in the black tank and in one of my grey tanks. The truck has a 62 gallon fuel tank which adds about 180 lbs. when full over the original 36 gallon tank.

Always nice to know what your rig weighs. My 2013 Sierra 2500HD Crew Duramax weighs in at 7920 lbs at a scale full of 36 gallons of fuel and me in the truck. 4664 on the front axle and 3256 on the rear. Pin weight on my trailer is 1620 lbs and axle weight is 6644 lbs. I’m guessing the weight of my boat I pull behind it all at around 2500 lbs as I have not been able to weigh it.

I calculate your pin weight at 1540 which gives you a pin weight percentage of 15.9 percent. A little low for a 5th wheel. If you can redistribute your weights to 20 percent pin weight you may find the trailer will tow better.

Yeah, I agree with the 1,540 pin weight. I'm considering air bags to level the truck while towing. When I do that, I'll adjust my hitch and pin heights to keep the trailer level while towing. Then I'll weigh again and try to redistribute the load. I don't want to add much to the rear axle because I'm already 100 lbs. over the truck's GVWR.

Short story...
This place was our first overnight on a trip to Florida keys a few years back, just before Memorial day. My wife and I, and my Mother and older sister...Nice campground. We had a spot high up on the hill, setup and made dinner, finished up about 1 hour before dark. We decided against a fire, due to the fact we were leaving pretty early and likely wouldn't be up too late anyway. We set out a couple lanterns and started playing some cards.
I'll tell you, once it got dark out, the bugs came like you couldn't believe. I swear it was like a horror movie! Lol. We lasted about 10 minutes, and had to retreat inside.
We laugh about it every time we go out somewhere where we encounter bug problems... My wife said it reminded her like an episode of "naked and afraid".

I didn't have an issue with bugs, but it was October and cool already. It was just a layover stop for me too, and I didn't bother with a fire either.
