Tow Mirrors
Looking at replacing my OE mirrors with an extendable mirror. I have power mirrors w/ no turn signal or heat. I would assume w/out turn signals on the original that the turn signal option wouldn't work anyway? Anyone done this? Can anyone recommend a good brand and source?

I bought tow mirrors for my Tundra here: 1A Auto Tow Mirrors 2008 F250. Excellent customer service!

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't you already have extendable mirrors on your rig already if you have the tow pkg?

Were extendable mirrors available as an option when the truck was new? If so you could do a search and find factory mirrors at a junk yard. That way you know they will fit and function correctly.

Not to question you but, you have pulled out directly on both or either mirror I take it. Mine take a pretty good tug to release.
I went to cars.com to find pictures of 2008 F-250's and couldn't find one without?

Good point,
a buddy got a new duramax and said he wished he had gotten tow mirrors like on my 350....
while we were looking at it I asked why do you think they put this slit right here on the mirror arm? tugged on it and wallah - popped out about 5 inches...
not automatic, but it worked for him !

We had one of the heated, blinker in glass mirrors break for some unknown reason. GM billed our insurance company $800.00 for a new one plus installation.
Ours was the 2nd 2004 2500HD truck that I heard of that split the glass for an unknown reason. (No chips, breaks, impact marks, etc. Even the insurance inspector could find no reason it broke). The other one that I saw had 2 driver side mirrors split.
The GM ones are sometimes impossible to simple get the glass out and replaced without doing the entire housing.
Summit Racing Equipment carries a line of manual towing mirrors. The brother in law bought one for his 2006 2500HD. They look pretty good.
I would imagine that they have ones for Fords also. Usually, Summit Racing has the best prices (usually) due to their high volume of sales getting them better prices to begin with.

I will take a couple pics and post. I moved them in, put them back, and gave a little tug. I may be missing something simple but pretty sure they don't extend. I do appreciate everyone's help.

Ok. Two pics of drivers side mirror. Had it into shop the other day trying to program a key fob. List of features provided by dealer for this particular truck. Mirror-Exterior Dual, Dual Sail MTD Power Mirrors. All Power Dual EXT Mirrors, Finish Black. Owners manual shows telescoping mirrors with statement "if equipped" and these are not them.

Camping world has one that is a sleeve & slides over the oem. From the looks of yours you would need to go by a cw & try one. I was skeptical at first about vibration & working loose but after 2 yrs & 23-30000mi they are solid. About 30.00 ea but sometime they have double packs for 50.00. They dont slide out but will fold in with your oem.

I bought the CIPA mirrors for my Silverado. They are without a doubt the best add on mirror. I could do that again, but gonna continue to research other options.

I have to throw the junk yard suggestion out there again.
You are going to pay good money for any mirror that is decent. If you buy a set from a salvage yard with power glass and signals, it is likely the wiring is already in the door and all you will have to do is plug them in.
I had a strap-on pair of mirrors and hated them. When we upgrade tow vehicle, dealer will have to install factory tow mirrors if not already equipped. Your Super Duty is a great looking ride, why not compliment it with factory tow mirrors!

Thanks Eddy. I checked with the closest salvage yard via the internet. I will go in because they can check others. Found an all manual set with non functional (looks only) turn signals for $200. Most of the others seem to be around $200 a piece and up. Nearest I can tell I have what is called the sport mirrors and this apparently changed in 09? So...for the interim I just ordered a pair of the CIPA mirrors, $40 including shipping from Amazon. I will keep looking.

Tim,
We called those mirrors the dumbo ears on our Excursions
And they are not good when towing (as you know!)
I too upgraded to the manual pull out ones like pictured here
join that forum and yu will get all the information you want on your ford truck
(I too returned a pair of the strap-ons)

I like the site but they are certainly pricey. I have power mirrors but no heat or turn signals. Having a hard time finding something with just power to the mirror and no signal or heat. I see no need to pay for a mirror with signal and heat if my truck doesn't have that option. But by the same token don't want a full manual mirror.
