Disinfecting H20 tank

Has anyone ever used Bromine to disinfect the H20 tank and the water lines?

I've never used it. Doesn't sound like anything I would want to try.
Why would you want to?

Years ago mom would mix about a cup of bleach with a gallon of water then pour it into the tank. Then fill it and pump it thru the lines with the water heater bypassed. Until you got a good bleach smell at the faucet. Let it sit over night then drain the tank and fill with fresh water drain that and refill. Run the pump and turn all faucets until the tank was empty.
Then she would mix a box of baking soda with about a gallon of water and pour it into the tank. Pump that thru the lines and let that sit over night. She would say that would "sweeten" the lines. Drain the tank and one more flush and it was good to go.

That is exactly the way I did it on our first camper with a water system.

I'm very familiar with how to disinfect the Rv water system. I use pool chlorine instead of bleach.. It doesn't leave the strong bleach odor. I do run it thru the water heater also since it could grow bacteria also. Makes sense to me.
My question was about using Bromine, which I use in my hot tub, instead of pool chlorine.

I did a little research and found this article that mentions Bromine. This was actually the only thing I found relating to fresh water tank sanitizing.https://littlehousetrailers.com/arti...0/20/cleanup-2 Not sure if this helps or not.

I do the same as Mark5W. But follow with a full tank rinse with Baking soda. Only have to perform this after initial season opening. We are using camper numerous trips from late June until early Oct. I also drain fresh water monthly if we are not using.

Do you use Bromine? That is what he is asking about.

As a hot tub owner, you become sort of a chemist to keep your hot tub healthy.
I learned that Bromine is a sanitizer, not a disinfectant.
You should use chlorine. Bleach is very effective.
1/2 cup to 30 gallons, pre-mixed.

Chlorine shock is not the right product. Shock 'activates' chlorine for your pool or hot tub, but does not contain the proper chlorine.

Chlorine shock and regular chlorine are basically the same. Difference is in the strength.

Quote:
Granular chlorine, liquid chlorine, chlorine tablets and granular shock all have similar active chemicals that sanitize your pool. What’s different about shock is the strength of the chemical
