Winter HWH drain

253 RB

- Drained fresh water tank
- Opened low hot and cold water lines
- Opened all faucettes
- Removed plug from HW heater and very little came out.

Have been doing this for years on may rvs, usually did HW first. Is that the differance? Always got a ton of water out of heater.

Thoughts?

Yes.
By opening everything else first, the WH will drain out the low point drains.
Do you finish by blowing the lines, or using RV anti freeze?

I have blown out the lines. Just so I don’t use as much RV antifreeze. For the security of knowing everything is correctly winterized and there’s not water at an elbow somewhere ready to freeze. Just use RV antifreeze. At least IMO of course.

Also do not forget the black tank flush. And not sure if this applies the waterline to the icemaker.

The 253RB has a connection ( likely just above the city water connection) for a spray hose supplied by the camper. Don't forget to blow that out as well.

Thats a good reminder on the spray hose. Mine is on the back of the unit near the ourside kitchen.

I wish there was a second water pump switch outside by the bypass for the fresh water tank.

Anyway, all done, ready for spring.

I do same except I always pour a little of the pink stuff in each sink drain just to protect the p-trap and I pour a little in the toilet bowl. I dont leave any liquids in jars in the trailer over the winter and I do the wh bi-pass.

I pour a little olive oil in the toilet to keep it lubed and it won't dissipate.
