My wife has a concern about the use of formaldehyde in the trailer. We have a 2007 (mfg 2006) CF30SK. Does anyone know if this is or wasa problem?

The off-gassing process in a 2006 unit would have occured within the first month of use. My 2009 fresh off the line barely had a smell beyond the typical "new smell" you get in a product, nothing like the eye burning sensation I had in a 2007 Jayco hybrid that contained lots of laminates full of formaldehyde.

We had an '06 Keystone Sprinter that took quite awhile to get the smell out of. Haven't noticed any issue with our '07 or our '10 Cruisers.

We have not had that problem with or 08 Cruiser. I know on some other brands I could smell it while looking.

Highlander,

Ventilation Needed:

I figure thatany new vehicle that is purchased these daysgases off a cocktail of chemicals, especially as the temperature increases. We keep our new automobiles well ventilated for the first few months. On our camper you will always find a roof top vent and a window cracked open. Commercial buildings are all designed for so many air exchanges per hour. So, ventilate and keep healthy.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" />

I worked with two young men that drove their brand new fieldservice vehicle to a job-site. On a hot sunny day they left it closed up and parked in the sun. Upon their return to the vehicle they turned on the A/C in the recirculation mode (no fresh air into the cab) and then drove 45 minute back to our shop. They were both sick as dogs.

Now, on high end vehicles you will notice that if you do put your A/C into recirculation mode it will only stay there fora fewminutes. It is better for the A/C unit and the passengers.

Thanks all for your input. It turns out that she has been preliminarily diagnosed with a somewhat rare lung infection not due to formadehyde. She also has an incredible sense of smell. I have often said that she can pick up the smell of a flea farting in Tokyo.

As far as the airing-out of the trailer, except for the high pine pollen days (lasts around a week or so in May/June sometime) I keep the roof vents open 12 months of the yearas well asthe windows cracked open if not wide open. I have told her from the beginning that any formaldehyde should have gassed-out long ago.

Thanks again,

Highlander

We have a 2008 Cruiser and it was pretty strong in there for 2 years. When not in use it sits in the shed and the windows and door are always open. The first summer I put pans of ammonia out in different spots. I had pulled it out in the hot sun and closed it up. Left it sit out like that for a couple days. That seemed to help quite a bit.
