Should I pop it? Slide out Roof Bubble.

Hey there.

I just noticed this bubble the other day on my slide out rubber roof. Looks like it's been there for a while. I'm tempted to puncture a small hole, deflate, and cover with a piece of Eternabond. I'm concerned that at some point it'll get popped by the slide and create a bigger repair area.

Thoughts? 20230531_190804.jpg

If you do that, you should cover the edges of the Eternabond with dicor to keep the slide seal from rolling the edges up.

Cool. That would probably be better than taking the chance that something doesn't snag it and rip it open though, right?

Check to see if the slide gearbox is leaking oil. This is a known problem.

I'll check. If it's leaking, it'll probably need to be replaced, correct? I actually remember replacing that a year or so ago because it broke. Maybe the new one is leaking??

Will that cause the rubber roof to bubble?

Yes, it did on mine. The dealer RV tech actually discovered it. The fix is a catch pan. Even if replaced with a new gear case, my understanding is that there is a good probability of a leak.

That makes sense. I bet it is directly below that box when the slide is in. Do you know how they fixed the bubble?
