Know what you are saying. BEEN THERE DONE THAT. There is always next year. Or another alternative is: you could join us for the Mason/Dinon Bunch in Virginia, October of this year. If you have not been following this thread, I have made reference to our sister group Mason/Dixon Bunch several times. They are also listed on the "Rally with Crossroads" thread.

Looking at the maps for the trip. Google maps gives me 3 options. I'm throwing out the one that takes me thru DC and around the Baltimore beltway (695), I know that's a bad choice. The other two options are 85 north to Richmond, then 95 north to DC beltway and a little ways around 495 to 270. Take 270 to 40w to 15N to 581 E and finally 83 to 81. Not a great choice because DC is not fun on a normal basis let alone hauling the TT. The third and final choice will bring me up hwy 29 to hwy 6 thru rockfish gap ( right by the fall rally site and stans stomping grounds) and then into 64w to 81 N. I'm thinking the rockfish gap option is the best bet, especially since I have the diesel with an exhaust brake so I'm not worried about mountains. Those of you that have made these drives which is the best route for hauling the tt? Am I right to take a little extra time and avoid DC? Thanks

Aileen, when I travel to SC I use the route I'm sending to you to get to I 95. I set it up for Pine Grove.

Let me know if the link worked.

Whenever we go to Raleigh we do the I95 torture route. Most times it is still faster, except in the snow. If you don't mind driving an hour or 2 extra, avoid DC...but remember there is also a fuel cost.

Hey guys, add me to the list for salmon at the wine & cheese and eggs and sausage for breakfast. I'll have my griddle there. Haven't decided on dinner yet, have to wait and see.

Aileen...takes us about 6 hours from our house to where we are meeting...of course we take out time at 55-60 mph....I think 29 to rt 6 to 64 to 81 is best route for you...less traffic for sure...so it must be about 8- 8 1/2 for you....good luck and drive safe...

So mapquest shows going past Stand to be approx 7 1/2 hrs so probably 8 1/2-9 hrs with stops etc. The DC route is 6 hrs 45 min according to mapquest so probably 8-8 1/2 hrs without traffic issues, God only knows if we hit the usual dc traffic issues.

If you go the DC route, between 10 and 2 would be best. Or prior to 5 am.

I think we are leaning to taking the slightly longer route up 81. I know how bad traffic gets in that VA side of DC just south of fort bel voir and north of Quantico. We hit that mess every time we go visit my parents in MD or Anthony's mom in NJ. I just wanted to make sure that route wouldn't be too bad. I know 81 in VA isn't too bad but I've never travelled it any farther north than the winchester area to know what we would be in for. Thanks guys. See you all soon.

On 81 you will be fine....maybe a little heavy thru Harrisburg but otherwise should be smooth sailing....if you go thru DC...you are nuts....also...I use mapquest for NOTHING...just my opinion.....

Pulled the 32bl down from NY today and was just thinking that the rally is right around the corner. We are really looking forward to it. Knowing NOVA as we do, if you don't get out of Dodge from any direction from DC by 2pm, you'll be watching movies on Netflix in traffic til about 7!!

Saturday breakfast is formally planned. In the past, Friday breakfast was more "ad hoc". But, we've done it almost every year!

Breakfast is 9:00 Saturday morning. Any one already at the campground Friday morning is more than welcome to get together for breakfast but it is not scheduled. Also I will mention again for all that we have the number #2 pavilion for the entire rally.
