With the cold weather it appears it is time to replace my battery in the F250 (v10). A brief search online shows the Odyssey line and the Diehard Platinum line are good candidates.
Any recommendations before I get the snow job, er I mean sales pitches?

Al, have you got a---Fleet Farm, or Farm & Fleet in the area?? If you do, why not get your battery/batteries from them?
When the batteries died in my Duramax I had Farm & Fleet install two. They have specs that are just as good as the name brand, excellent warranty, and usually cheaper.

I was told by the salesman at sears to go to Autozone and get their top of the line battery. I did that this past summer and havent had any problems at all.
When chosing batteries you just have to remember they are only made, almost all of them in only a few companies. Johnson controls makes the Sears batteries and also the Autozone batteries. Made in the same factory to the same specs as most batteries are. It is just what you chose to spend is the question, for the same battery made in the same factory.Edited by: fixit5561

In almost every category the Ever Start batteries from Wal-Mart were tops in Consumer Reports latest tests. They have very good warranties and are competitively priced.

Looking for real world experience here. No offense to rating organizations, but I've found I often disagree with their "unbiased" reports. Seems pretty clear that everyone is happy with whatever battery they chose to purchase, and no one appears to have gone to the Odyssey yet. If it weren't so cold right now I would have gone to the TSC (tractor supply company) and bought one, but my local repair shop sold me one for pretty close to cost and he replaced it. Love those long term relationships
For those of you getting 10 years out of your battery, I'm guessing either you store your truck (and battery) for part of the year and/or don't live in a cold weather state or province. My vehicle is garaged which helps extend battery life, but who knows what the previous owner did?

I just bought the Wal-mart battery and so far no problems. Got 5 years out of the original one. It was $30 less than the top of the line one from Autozone. Hey! $30 is $30 dollars!

Chris,
Never had a problem with any Wal-Mart batteries and there have been a few. I'll bet they sell morevehicle batteries than any other US merchandiser.

I went with NAPA because they were close to the original and with the new cars and trucks, its best to match the one that came on the truck or car. Some people will try to sale you a smaller amp battery or a very large amp battery, but I feel that if they needed more it would have come on the turck or car when new. My two cents

Remember it's not the cold that kills batteries it's the heat, but issues show when it gets cold. When I replaced my 2 stk. batteries (750 CCA) about a year ago the dealer suggested, being here in WI. it would be wise to go with no less than 800CCA ea. but less than 950 CCA. I went with 850CCA Motorcrafts no issues when the temp drops below 0.
I also asked why so much bigger than stock, the dealer response was 750's are a great overall battery for much of the country, but go bigger with in the Northern states. Much like trying to find Windshield Washer fluid in FL. that won't freeze below 20 degrees.
