Black water backup

2022 Crossroads Cruiser 30RLS: Just returned from a trip where some black water (no doubt, not grey) backed up into the kitchen sink with a terrible smell. Black & grey tanks were only 1/4 full at the time, had just been flushed. Any ideas how this could happen ?
Also, what do the galley monitor lights actually monitor ? (All is have is 1 black and 1 grey tank which have their own monitors)

The only way is if your kitchen sink and toilet are on the same tank. Galley if used is for the kitchen or Galley.

With 2 tanks the toilet is on one and the shower/bath sink and kitchen sink is on a tank.

Have you checked for three dump valves as you may have a galley tank.

Sometimes the galley/kitchen tank can get pretty bad/smelly so it may not have been sewer.

What dagst1 said. Try to flush the gray tank to see if it helps. A little Dawn soaking in the tank may help.

Only possible way to get black tank into gray is to leave your gray tank open when draining and flushing the black tank.

Thanks for the quick response. Looked multiple times and there is no other release valve for a 3rd (galley tank) anywhere and we've used it multiple times with no issues. I was told when bought new that the galley went into the grey as you'd expect. What I don't understand is there is a galley monitor that is showing full, owners manual doesn't mention a galley tank anywhere. The monitor has a second grey tank monitor that shows nothing because I don't have a second grey tank. Just can't figure it out.

Sometimes the valve is on the opposite side of the Rv.

The handle for the galley tank on ours was right behind the rear wheel on the drivers side. Tucked up tight to the frame.

Just looking at the specs for your camper --- Black 30 Gray/Galley 60. 60 gal would be a big holding tank so it could be 2 30 gal tanks and that would explain the full galley reading. Some panels will have a spot for other things like a second gray but if not equipped it would not read at all.

Thanks ! Just found the galley handle tucked behind a tire. Galley tank finally filled after 2 years since it's never been drained. Appreciate everyone's help.

Good you found it. It was carrying a lot of extra pounds on your trips.

Thanks for the report back.

Ya know, you are lucky you live down south in the banana belt. If you were up north here where I am, you would more than likely have a busted galley tank.
