I was out for a week long trip and the meat we kept in the fridge didnt keep good at all. We had to throw out 2 porterhouses and some bacon too. The temp gauge in the fridge said it had temps that were in the safe range but the meat only lasted about 3-4 days and then went bad. Dont our fridges have the coolness to keep meat for longer than a day or two?
Anyone else have this problem and how did you fix it?Edited by: fixit5561
My freezer is always the coldest of cold. When I check it, it is always about 5-10 dgs. Even when the fridge warms up due to outside temps, the freezer stays very cold.
The meat was on the lowest shelf in the fridge, thats why I was asking about it. Maybe it was just the heat and having a 7yr old that likes to keep the fridge door open alot. I dont know.
I plan on just freezing everything from now on and then take it out when we want to use it.
Our frig is coldest on the top shelf.. I never put anything there that might not live near frozen. And I usually keep the meat in the freezer and thaw when needed.
my drinks are usually 12 yrs old and older, and they stay in the cupboard until needed. then I usually put them on ice, single malt scotch is what I prefer.
I use a wireless thermometer in the fridge. The ones designed to measure outside temps. Lets you monitor fridge and freezer temps if you have two transmitters without opening the door. I usually have to run fridge on lower settings and have never lost any meat.
Is it me, or does meat just not taste as good after it's been frozen?
