I constantly find myself wishing I could see what is immediately behind the trailer, particularly on two lane highways. However the cost of a rearview system, particularly a wireless one is prohibitive for our budget. Friends of ours have new a new granchild, as a present they bought a wireless baby monitor for less than $200. It has a good picture and a range of over 50' . Question has anyone used one of these as a rear view camera? Is this possible solution too good to be true?

I would think it would work if you had a rear window. The only problem would be is if either end didn't run on batteries.

I doubt it would be weather proof so I agree you would need a rear window or be able to build a weather proof box.

Campingworld has a wireless backup camera for only $119.99.
It is made to fit on your license plate frame, but I intalled it up by the running lights on the back of my motorhome. It worked really good especially when I was pulling my dingy. I will be putting one on my new Cruiser soon.

Yes Pegger, I installed a hardwired system and paid more than's in your budget. My suggestion to you is to forget aboutany wireless system and bite the bullet and buy a hardwired system. You won't regret it. It'll work all the time, everytime.
Our American friends have the advantage of not having to deal with a dollar difference, shipping and handling charges, duties and taxes, when they deal with the places they have suggested to you. Here is a link to a Canadian Dealer that is located in Alliston Ontario.

I added the link to the pictures of my hardwired camera installation.

After being disappointed with how most
rear view cameras are installed in most 5th wheels, we
decided to install it ourselves. We chose a wired system for
improved reliability and routed the wires internally as much as
possible. The camera used was the Backup Camera 7"TFT LCD
RearView Camera System from Mymobilevision.com for $258. Here is the
link:
http://www.mymobilevision.com/.sc/ms/bdd/ee/73/7%26quot%3B%20TFT%20LCD%20Rear%20View%20System%20% 2C1%5E2F3%20CCD%20Color%20Camera%20SMS7001KIT
I have a sequence of photos
showing the details, beginning at the rear of the 5th
wheel, and following the wiring to the connector in the front
compartment, to the truck connector, and finally to the monitor in
the truck. However I cannot figure out how to upload teses photos.

Posting Pics
The first thing you need to do is go to photobucket.com or several other free online photo storage sites. Create a free account and upload your pics from your computer to an album that you have created in your account. After this is done, open a 2nd Internet Explorer window(leave the 1st one open to your photo album, the 2nd, go to our Crossroads forum to where you want to post; either start a new thread or a new reply. You can type any wording before or after each pic.
When ready to insert a pic, click on the tree icon in the message tool bar. You will then get a pop-up window and in the upper right is has a space that says "Image URL". In the space, http:// is already there...I find it easier to delete this. Minimize (don't close this IE window and the first one should be visible. Right click on the http link under the photo that you want and select "Copy"; go back to the 2nd IE window and right clickin the"Image URL" spaceand select "Paste". Then click on Preview. Your pic should show up in the Preview window. If it does, then select OK and your pic should be inserted into the body of the thread.
