I am picking up a 2010 27RL on Sat and wondered if any of you had any insite intoeither a standard hitch or a slider. I am pulling it with a Titian crew cab so it is a short box.
Any other info either on the 27RL or towing in general would be of help...have pulled trailers for years but this is the first time with a 5th wheel. Plan on spending a little time in my school's parking lot before the first time out..no trees there to clip!!

I would go with a slider. It's cost about the same as 1 insurance deductible go around and you can use over and over again. Remember the only time your going to want a slide hitch is when you need it either at a campground or on the road.

I use a slider hitch on my short bed. As soon as we get to a campground where I know that I will be maneuvering with tight turning movements, I slide the hitch away from the cab & leave it there until we leave. When we pull into an RV park with minimal hard turns, we just leave the hitch in the towing mode. Normal driving including access in & out of driveways does not require "sliding" the hitch.

Bob:
Congrats on the new rig, and welcome to the forum.
You can put me down for a second on ALL the fore mentioned on a slider.

You can put me down for the slider. I have been in several Park Service campgrounds where it was needed.

Thanks to all for the info...kind of reinforced what I was thinking. We have a trip planed for the last week in March (spring break here in FL) so will be getting broken in then. I am sure I will have more questions later. This forum is great thanks again

I'm a slider person as well, and wouldn't leave home without it. Another piece of cheap insurance is a BedSaver. http://www.blue-ox-towbars.com/produ...e_ox_bed_saver

For my two cents I would have to say anyone with a short bed should get a slider hitch to prevent the nose of the 5er in the back window. There was a good clip on you tube some time ago. However I am not a bed saver fan when you can pull test ( put the weight on the hitch but keep the legs about an ince off the ground. With the wheels chocked just a tug and make sure the jaws are locked.) It just takes a few seconds to do the same thing.

I'm almost in the same boat with the exception that I bought a 2010 F250 CC 6.8L V10 short bed yesterday. I will be ordering a slider hitch on Monday when I figure out which one I want. I had an eight foot bed with a B&W Companion hitch in my previous truck and I will really miss that hitch. I don't know much about slider hitches, so if ya have any suggestions I'm listening. They won't trade my Companion in so I will have to have them try to sell it for me.

There are automatic type slider hitches out there. You may want to look into them as well as the manual ones.

I have been looking at information at the Pullrite Superglide 18K shich I think would be a good one and I can get it for about $1,640. I will see Monday what the people that I'm dealing with will want for one installed. This is my first shortbed and I wouldn't want to forget that while backing up. People tell me that I do suffer from old timers disease.

Have fun with the new RV!!!
Spend the extra money for the slider. When you are backing up into a tight spot you will the very glad. Even with the hitch in manuver position, I think I could get the truck cab and RV to touch.

You might want to look at the Sidewinders by Reese.

I think I will be looking at everything that is available from the people that I'm dealing with. I don't have to be in a hurry as I have to put 1,000 miles on the truck before pulling anything. That could get boring.

If you can get the Superglide for $1640, jump on it. I've got the 18K Superglide and wouldn't be without it. There have been times when I needed to turn really tight (generally doing a U-turn across a major highway to get somewhere on the other side without going x-miles down the road) and it's allowed me to do that. Combine that with a heavy rain at the time and think whether you might be tempted to, just this one time, try the maneuver without sliding the hitch and you'll convince yourself of their value, as opposed to a broken rear window and a big-assed dent.
It's a great hitch and the people at Superglide are really wonderful to work with. I had a small problem with mine once and they sent me a new head with no questions asked. I didn't even have to send them the old one first.

I'm going to go look at a superglide this morning. I decided that with all of the money I'm spending on the new pickup, I'm not going to cheap out on a hitch. I have to get something going as I'm sure they will want my fiver there when the new hitch goes in and the dealership will be wanting my trade in when I pickup my new truck.

The hitch installing dealer shouldn't your 5r there to do the install. The mounting position is the same regardless of 5r type.
Enjoy your new set-up.
