My Husband and I have been campground hosts for several years and enjoy every minute of it.
The first year we hosted was for the Cradle of Forestry in the Allegheny National Forest, Kinzua Dam, Warren, PA. there we worked hard for our site (mowed, weed wacked, liter control, cleaned restrooms) it was okay, but I didn't retire to work that hard, lol!
Now for the past 4 years we arecampground hosts for PA State Parks (DCNR). We do liter control, clean fire rings, meet and greet visitors and inspect the restroom (no cleaning) in the evening hours and report problems if needed. This has been a very enjoyable experience and at the campground we host at (Prince Gallitzin State Park, Patton, PA)we get water, electric and sewer, work a 40 hr week, but of course we get to go out and explore.
Not all the PA State Parks give thehosts all the amenities, but there are a few that do. Most of them give you electric and/or water hook ups. I've enclosed the link for volunteering in PA State Parks.
Give hosting a try, it's rewarding and if your retired a cheap way to get your fix of camping with nature!!
