Looks like this issue has been beat to death here. Only additional comments I can add... I have a longbed crew cab with a manual slider and love it. I really didn't need it but bought it used and the Reese 16k was priced right.
With a long truck, the slider works nice, not having to remove the tailgate when backing in or having raise it back up after getting beyond the pin. I lower it first but I don't need to raise it back up until hitched if backing straight in. Nice advantage.
The other value is the turning issue. If I know I'm backing into a tight spot, I'll slide the hitch back and that one foot really makes a big difference turning, more like a bumper pull.
Both could be considered little things but they both really help.
I'd get a slider if the wallet allows.
