Time for a new truck
This upgrade certainly wasn't a quick reaction to my event climbing a long grade last weekend it was more the nail in the coffin. I've been researching diesel trucks even before we bought our trailer. I've been a fixture in many a tread in the past few months vacillating from one direction to the other. I was uncomfortable how hard I had to push the motor to climb the grade and how hot the transmission fluid got in the process. If it had of been just me I could have lived with it but not with my family with me.
I had narrowed it down last year to a Ford or Dodge but there are so few cummins in Ontario without mega mileage it was left to the Ford. Last week there were only 28 6.7 trucks in my price range in Ontario and of those only 15 had the option package I wanted. I looked at 2 without even test driving them, they were beat up on the outside, I test drove 2 more they were nice but not the colors I really wanted . Yesterday I drove the 3rd and 4th before stopping on the way home to look at one last one. I was really started to get disappointed these were $80,000 trucks and they looked like they had been treated like V6 beater work trucks. The last one was a refreshing change at 30ft it looked amazing at 5ft it looked great. A few small issues but nothing that would turn me away. The truck ran great, started up cold ran smooth and pulled like a freight train. I plugged in my scanner and zero codes were present which was another great sign. I crawled underneath and other than some minor surface rust there was no wet spots. The motor hadn't been steam cleaned and I poked around and again couldn't find any wet spots
I ended up haggling for new tires an oil and fuel filter change + one more set of filters for the next one. $2000 off asking and got $17,000 for my Avalanche. Overall I'm happy I would have paid asking on this one.
2011 F350 King Ranch, Loaded to the hilt.
Unfortunately I'm traveling most of next week so I won't get to pick it up until the weekend or early the following week.
Thanks to the forum for answering all most post these past months.

Congrats. Very pretty (same color scheme as my old ford) . Enjoy the towing experience, it will be night and day to towing with the avalanche. Now the next question.... when do you upgrade the tt to match the truck's capabilities?

Very nice truck, of course I'm biased since I have one!! I wouldn't even know my 5er is behind me with this truck but you can't miss it in the mirrors.
When you are ready to start the modifications, look me up.

That's a few years away. But I defiantly see a toy hauler in our future. Just don't tell my wife.

Thanks! I'm just starting to do my research, I want to go through all the maintenance before I start to turn it up. I do need to find a bed cover first though.

Nice truck - allot of improvements were made to the 2011 trucks. The Ford should serve you well.

You beat me to the punch line. That is a very nice looking truck. I may be considering an 06 Dodge 2500 with 80,000 miles and 5.9 Cummins?. Owner is considering selling as he doesn't really need it any more. Will have to wait and see what he wants as not quite ready to turn it loose.

Smart man - went right to the 350 instead of pausing at the 250!
What GVWR did you get ?
I SERIOUSLY considered that color,
but the tuxedo black with the 'sparklies' (as the granddaughter calls them)
won out...
I have tuned EVERYTHING we've had over the last 10 or so vehicles,
but just haven't felt the need to do this 6.7 yet...
as is, it just does everything so well stock !!!! good luck !

Good looking truck! Congratulations. I don't think you'll regret your decision as long as you are pulling heavy trailers. In my opinion, they are worth the extra cost in safety alone.

Great choice. Should serve you well for years. And the best thing is: it's a Ford.
Lloyd, that leg and foot is the stabilizer for camping. Something new I guess.

I looked for a 250 but there were so few of them. I was a bit worried that the around town ride would be harsh but only time will tell on that. The build sheet says 11500 GVWR Package, it also has the upgraded alternator.

I love my 6.7. There really isnt that much difference between a 250 and a 350 until you go to dual wheels.

good deal on the max gvwr !
as part of the deal had them install a rear sway bar on ours since we would be towing heavy and
adjust the tpms so I could adjust the psi to what I wanted,
not to 80 psi all the time - that helps the ride a bunch.
we have the michelins so used this table for loads:

oh, new rancho 9000xl adjustable shocks also helped the ride

I was fussing at the dealer about how I couldn't lower the tire pressure on the rear tires to 60lb when I wasn't towing for a better ride. It would set off the TPMS. He told me since I had the SRW I had the tire programmer (which I did) and that all I had to do was set the rear tires where I wanted and then go thru the re-program routine like I had rotated the tires and it would accept the current pressure (60) and be happy. Of course when I raised the pressure to 80 I would have to re-program.
It seems the SRW's came with the programmer as the front tires are set at 60 and the rear 80 so when they are rotated they have to be re-programmed. I just didn't know I could tell it to be happy with what I had it set at and not the factory recommended 80lb.
