Winterize

Hi I just bought a 2021 sunset 242 BH and I'm a little confuse about the hot water tank. I'm use to seeing 3 valves and 1 as a by pass but my tank has only 2 valves. 1 line comes off the main water line and goes into the tank(cold ) with a valve and then the line loops aroundinto another valve (hot) with a valve and back into the tank. My question is ...do I only switch the 2 valves the other position and that will by pass the tank .

This is the valve positions for summer. Turn them the opposite for winterizing.

Just remember that "both valves" have to be horizontal or "both" vertical.

Woody62, just a little explanation. The picture is perfect! When you winterize, you're going to put that pink anti-freeze in your water lines. These valves are designed to pass water through the hot water tank in normal operation, but bypass the water heater so the pink stuff doesn't get in during winterizing. First, it would consume 6 gallons of antifreeze, and leave a bad taste in the water. Similarly, you drain the fresh water tank, and don't put water in there, either.

My 2018 Sunset Trail has a 3rd valve also. It’s for the fresh water tank. I only open it when I’m using the fresh water tank.

Technically you have 4 valves , 2 on the back of the heater , and 2 close to the water pump...1 open all the time that comes from the fresh tank that is closed when you open the one connected to a 3 ft hose with no end on it that gets put into the pink antifreeze jug to winterize.
