We had alot of issues with our Washington's AC. We had to have the bedroom unit replaced because there was no cool air coming out. Now it works great when we dump it directly into the BR. When we direct it through the duct work the volume of airflow is greatly reduced. The opening going to the ductwork is only about a 1" x 3" opening, so I quess it restricts alot of the air flow.
The rear air had and issue where it had very little output of air flow, no return air flow pressureand it would also have a very short cycle time. It would come on and then off in a matter of 30 - 45 seconds or so then repeat.
Bottom line, was that the mixing of cold air & return air was occuring.
There is a "Technical Service Bulletin" for the Redwood line that shows the Plennum area under the rear air was not sealed properly. THIS! was the issue with my Washington too.
The fix was to lift the rear unit, seal all of the unsealed areas with pieces of luan and foil tape. This will ensure that the return air actually sucks air from the interior of the unit rather than sucking air through the other openings which led to areas under the roof.
The MIXING of air happens because MY center divider between the cold air and return air was about 3/4" of an inch to low and there was no way the cool air could get into the duct work propery.
The fix was the tech removed the luan center divider, replaced it with a propering sized piece of 1/2"plywood that he tow nailed into each side of the opening and then topped it off with a length ofAC gasket material. (the same gasket material that is used on the bottom of the AC unit)
NOW, we have a cool unit, the past couple of days it was 95 and very humid. The unit stayed in the low 70's and I actually had to adjust the therostat so it would warm up some in the unit.
Hope this is help, Good luck and safe travels.
